This one isn’t bad, but the military courses in Hawaii and California are outstanding. I’ve played great civilian courses, including Pebble Beach, and there are military courses in the top caliber range too.

Used to cruise 17 Mile Drive and Pebble Beach back in my Monterey days. 18 years old and had no idea. lol
Pebble Beach green fees aren't bad relative to the experience. It's the 2- or 3 night minimum stay at the Inn that starts to add up, unless you're willing to roll the dice and try to luck into a tee time the day before.
I'm going to make you all feel bad. I played it on Christmas Eve 1991 for $50! The fees were about $300 at the time, but they don't sell all the tee times during the holiday season, so they give some of them to people that work there to use or sell. A friend of mine had a buddy that worked in the pro shop and the buddy offered a tee time for four to him for $200. The friend called me and two other of our friends and asked us to play for $50 each. Of course, we jumped all over it. My wife was pregnant and due early January, so I told her to call the pro shop if she went into labor and I'd be there soon as we finished the round!
Our daughter was born on New Year's Eve.It wasn't windy that day and I had only been playing golf for a year, and I ended up shooting an 89 which was a great score for me at that point.
I hear the greens fees are $700 now and you have to stay at the Inn. Another buddy of mine told me it cost him $1000 bucks all together to play a round there. It's a bucket list course and I've played it.

Poppy Hills is really good public course in the Del Monte Forrest. Pacific Grove's municipal course is called the poor man's Pebble Beach. The back nine is a links course along the ocean. Definitely worth playing. I liked Laguna Seca a lot too. Bayonet on the old Fort Ord is a great course. One of the hardest in the area.
