Coaching search took but only two days. Welcome home Dusty May.

IU finally has its stars aligned. The only person in the world that could F this up, would have to be that Nikos guy in Dallas who’s destroying the morale of the entire city. Turning sane people into game participants hunting him for bragging rights and a memorial statue of themself for their heroic good deed. Circuit Court Judges have been running adds in all the newspapers offering immunity to the winner.

We don’t need a Nikos here. But we could use a Dusty May.

You’re on the clock IU. There is no Faucci science available to cook up an amnesia vaccine because you can’t recall how every single hire made has takin organized steps to avoid better options. Wether it was personal or political or financial or whatever reason. The BS comes to an end now.

There couldn’t possibly be a better option. In fact it’s half a miracle to even get a second chance at this after you failed to recognize its value just yesterday. The glass slipper is sitting under your nose once again. Can we finally for once live up to the gold standard on your end about “doing things the right way”.
It’s your turn to deliver.

Dusty May could be a very good hire, but there’s something about him that I can’t quite put my finger on that leaves me hesitant. Turning around FIU was an impressive accomplishment, but it took him five years to achieve it. Would a coach like Bruce Pearl or Chris Beard have needed that long to accomplish the same? May’s coaching history is still relatively brief, and I’m not entirely convinced he can sustain success over multiple recruiting cycles. We saw Tom Crean have a strong run at Marquette with Dwyane Wade, but that success didn’t fully translate long-term, and I worry Dusty’s trajectory could be similar.

That said, May has already demonstrated his ability to turn Michigan around in just his first year, which is another impressive feat. Still, there’s something about his demeanor that feels like it’s missing an edge. As odd as it might sound, I think I’d like him more if he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder. His calm, nice-guy persona is great for consistency but lacking the fiery drive that can elevate a program to the next level.

I’m not crazy about May either though we could do worse. At FIU he didn’t have NIL and the program was not a name brand. I’d prefer if he had more than a partial season in the B1G as a record but he’s probably exceeded expectations at Mich

Dusty's not leaving Michigan after only one season. IU had its chance but decided to retain the worst coach in D1.

Day late, dollar short.

I think he would leave for Indiana and only Indiana. That is why he negotiated a low buyout.
Okay, let's think about this logically. During his interview, do you think Dusty said, "I accept your offer, Michigan, but I need a low buyout in case IU comes a-calling"? I'm guessing UM wouldn't have agreed to that.

I have a feeling Dolson is going to surprise all of us and go with someone most aren’t talking about.. just like he did with Coach Cig… Welcome Ben McCollum
Sure, why not take a chance on the hot mid-major coach. I seem to recall IU doing that once...

Didn’t he bring a guy or two from FIU with him?
I worry about who he could bring with him. To make such a turnaround here or if he’s already shot his shot.

Or did he say “I will only come to Michigan under these conditions.” He had other suitors.

Beard, May,,,McCollum

Beard would be my favorite choice, but would be tough to come back to this board after the hire to see all the crying

$4,000,000 I believe
6.3 million if he leaves before April 1st

5 million if he leaves between April 1st and April 30th,

4 million through the rest of 2025

According to SI

Wouldn't be hard for us to pay that. That's less than we are probably paying Woodson to go away, and probably similar to what we paid to get Miller.
