Irish Lion Closing?

The looks won’t fix the constant bitching and nagging. 😂
One of the guys on our college team chat announced he’s getting divorced so everyone was chiming in. My one teammate said that he made his last support payment when his kid turned 18 and immediately blocked his ex from everything and hasn’t spoken to her in six years!!

What's going on at Sports these days? In my time it was packed all the time. But guessing not nearly as popular these days.

The Vid still going strong?

Sports is pretty dead a lot too, Upstairs is for sure the new hot bar.

Upstairs was always popular but it's not that big. Did they expand? Whatever happened with the old Jungle Room space? I used to hang out at Festers before they built that. Ruined the vibe. Loved the OG Festers.

Guessing kids don't go to bars as much, in general.

Yes they expanded and renovated and it’s super nice now. Whole wall of televisions. I think they still go out quite a bit. I read Uostairs was packed tonight for Pacers game and it’s two dollar Tuesday at Roy’s, which had been crowded but probably not with boycott. ( don’t know if it’s still two dollars)

The back room of the Upstairs is pretty cool with the old AH scoreboard. Great on nice days!
I like Upstairs. Haven't been since they put the scoreboard in. That was Hooligans when I was there.

Went up there before the Ohio State game, I think. Last game of the year and nice weather. The place was packed and I figured I'd feel pretty out of place, being such a senior citizen.

Standing around, drinking a beer, and some guy asked me if I'd punk one of his friends who was feeling old (I think he'd just graduated and these guys were still in school). So, I got his attention and said "Hey, weren't you on my floor in Briscoe?". Guy looked at me like I had a third eye and his buddies were cracking up.

Had a great time - definitely a rowdy atmosphere. You should check it out.

Upstairs - Upgrades make it the top sports bar in town. The old bar is cleaned up, they have that middle patio bar as a "ski lodge" in the winter, Tiki Hut in the Spring. New bar with the scoreboard has tons of TV's, and roll up garage doors on the north side. Best bar in town. Decent food as well. $1 burgers grilled outside on the deck Friday afternoon kills.

Kilroys - was packed last night at 10pm as we were heading home from Hayes Carll at Buskirk. Line around the side all the way to the old side entrance. Went inside a couple weeks ago...bailed after one drink. Upstairs is just better, unless you're Greek hitting the late night pickup scene.

Sports - could never figure out what was going on there until we hit the Vid after a Bluebird show last month. Sitting upstairs at the Vid, around midnight we saw car after car dropping kids off, and a line forming. From midnight to 1am...nonstop kids getting dropped off. I'm assuming it's the new late night disco spot, because other than midnights on weekends, I never see it open.

Jakes - was a brewery for a bit that showed EPL on weekends, had a decent following. Had an all ages trans show, got boycotted (I guess), and out of biz within 6 mos. Still vacant. Love to bring back Jake's, but Bird is having a hard enough time booking good stuff as it is. Not enough room with Bishop, Bird, and Buskirk booking bands.

Place is clean as a whistle inside now. Covid allowed them to clean/redo the inside, add booths (shoutout to Kirby Customs), and they added framed posters all over from the legendary shows in the past. Cool just walking around and trying to remember the shows you went to "before they were big".

Tyler Childers, Billy Strings, Whiskey Meyers, Caamp...guys are playing arenas now and played the Bird within the past 7 years.

Sounds like I need to go in and take a look around. Part of the charm of the place was the tackiness of it. lol

I hope the graffiti in the men's john is still as creative.

Best bathroom graffiti I've ever seen was at Lakewood Landing (dive bar) in Dallas...

"Ayn Rand had some big ass titties."

Simple. Direct. Provocative.

It's right there on the wall above the urinal, staring back at you mid-pee. Amid the gibberish and wild-scrawled drawings: "Ayn Rand had some big ass titties." Mid expel, you find yourself questioning the veracity of this bold statement. It's nearly too descriptive to be false, right? And let's not discount the talent it takes to pen this during urination, which is the only way we can imagine it happening. Anyway, welcome to the Lakewood Landing, where cold beer, a jukebox playing Sam Cooke, and vexing wall graffiti lives. Enjoy yourself. We always do.
