Interesting quote for those who argued that we have plenty of depth in the backcourt

and no room for others:

"I think at the end of the day our lack of depth at guard is really going to get exposed as we start to play the talent level and the guards on the other team." - Archie Miller.

All I was doing was trying to make an objective observation that this was a miss, in not finding a grad transfer or adding another guard to last years class with 2 open spots. Hopefully Rob is back for FSU. This team has good potential, but it needs some continuity and chemistry, and could have used a little more depth in the backcourt. The strange thing is that the guys who left: Clifton Moore and Jake Forrester were frontcourt guys, so we should have been on a recruit for last year really. Need to always be recruiting!

I don't think anyone has claimed IU doesn't need more than 4 guards on the roster.

I wouldn't have thought so either, but there were a few guys arguing we wouldn't be able to sign anyone because there were no minutes available. I can accept that if that's your argument about quality grad transfers, but then that means we should have had another guard(s) already on the roster or in last years class. I think it's still correcting the roster imbalances and possibly wrong players from CTC, but we should have another guard available, if nothing else, for practice and injury situations.

No question IU could use another capable/experienced guard but willing to bet that was at least in part a calculated comment by Miller to light yet another fire under IU's backcourt. Have to remember something about Archie - he's ALWAYS coaching. Even in pressers.

If all 11 scholarship players are healthy, I do not think we need any more guards. We are much more in need of a big IMO. I have watched all the B1G teams now and our guard play I think can be the best in the league. Franklin is clearly the 4th best guard and he would be getting minutes on every team in the B1G.

If Devonte and Green can play a game together and both be healthy, they should be playing 30+ minutes. Al really should be right behind that with TJD and Smith in the next wave of minutes. Franklin is gonna struggle to get minutes if all are healthy. Problem is that never happens with IU, ever.

I think we will get exposed when TJD gets in foul trouble and we are forced to play Brunk and DD against quicker mobile bigs that every big ten team has. I still am bullish that DD will do better in those situations, but it is not based on anything he has done this year. He has been pretty bad in all facets. He still is quicker than Brunk tho, Brunk moves so freaking slow.

Is that like being Jekyll and Hyde at the same time?

Hang on to your day job.
Rob... I will hang on to it, and I will continue to make errors while ripped on a Sunday typing on a message board. I think I am gonna load another one actually.

Cool. Edit feature below each post you make if you care to clarify your intent. Enjoy 'prayers'.

Well, we have 13 schollies, so an extra backcourt and frontcourt player would have been a possibility, but since both transfers were frontcourt players that seems more understandable that we might be short there. Brunk may be slow, but after seeing guys 6'7" and smaller anchoring the paint for several years, I'm glad to have a bigger body to bang down low and think he was a great signing.

I'm forgiving the if Devonte could play a game with Green as an oversight and you meant Rob, but cloning is an option I hadn't considered! Maybe we should look to the Science Dept for a hand!
