Amazingly, most of the community on FB is supporting the teacher and blaming the kid. They think he should have been let go, but allowed to receive his full pension and quite a few think the kid "had it coming," because he had apparently been previously expelled and was a handful.
Anyone know if Indiana teacher's lose their pensions if fired instead of allowed to retire? I find it hard to believe that someone could lose an entire 40-year's-earned pension but the news reports seemed to imply that would have been the case.

My preference would be that all of this stays out of the classroom, however, I am not interested in a rules for thee but not for me type of situation. Frankly, I feel like grievances in the classroom coming from my side of the argument get brushed away and we are told to go homeschool our kids. So if parents up there have an issue with the teacher, go homeschool.
Now, if folks are interested in addressing everyone's valid grievances, then I am ready to come to the table. I am not joining this pitchfork mob because this guy is espousing political views that A)are not typically found in academia and B)Are the type that are popular to go after for the Twitter influenced mobs. If it is ok for a BLM sign to hang in a school, then it is ok for this guy. If I can walk into my 7th graders social studies classroom and know by the people and posters hanging on the wall exactly what her political values are before she even opens her mouth (left...and the curriculum she chooses reflects that) then this guy is alright.
I either support addressing teachers being too political in the classroom as a whole or I do not support addressing it at all as long as only one political opinion is verboten. A bunch of people complaining in this thread would not give a shit if those were BLM fight the power type of bumper stickers or posters about being cognizant of their white privelege.

I have every bit as much say in the education of my children as any left leaning person does. The only way to ensure an equal voice is in the concept of ideological MAD. Which is a really terrible place to be when discussing education, but the teachers unions don't give a flying **** about our kids. They have been the last to let go of the useless mask bull shit even though it was known and is finally being acknowledged that the masks really ****ed kids development. We want to go after this guy, I am all for it, but he should be added to the bottom of a list, not pushed to the top because his politics are the "icky" kind that you rarely find openly expressed in schools.

Go to your school board with violence if need be. Pass laws that allow for random accusations to be grounds for arrests and firings. Demand that they stop teaching this distorted POV to our children because if we don't, then our kids will grow up to hate everyone that doesn't think like them.

Student walked out of class, would not take his hood off, would not listen to teacher. The final straw was when the kid told the teacher, “I am going to f… your daughter”

It’s very easy to find out what is going on in the classroom. If you don’t like it, you are welcome to take your child to a private school or homeschool. Teachers unions are mostly made up of teachers who first want what is best for students and also what is best for teachers. Health experts felt that wearing masks was best until just recently and that’s what the majority of schools followed. Was with a group of teachers last night, one who oversees student teachers. There is going to be a severe teacher shortage within a few years. Colleges all over the country are seeing drastic reductions in education majors. We’ll see what happens then....This political nonsense about teachers is the usual GOP gaslighting. Especially in grade school, I’d be willing to bet 99% of students have no idea what their teachers’ politics are.
