If you want an entertaining listen, check out this podcast by Galen Clavio of CrimsonCast. It's a pretty funny idea, but it is something that I've not heard anywhere else, and it is interesting discussion. I hope you'll watch and subscribe because he's one of the more thoughtful IU podcasters out there, and comes up with interesting takes like this. He says throw the sink at Matt Painter and see what he could do with IU's resources. I know many on here will say aim higher, but they've been the dominant program in the B10 for the last 10-15 years, makes the tournament every year and does have a NC game appearance and E8 in the last 5 years or so. Plus, as he says, if nothing else you throw 10 million at him, you force PU to pony up several more million per year, which is then money they can't put elsewhere. If he is at 4.5 million, I'd say he is vastly underpaid. So that's my question: would you be happy with Painter in Crimson, or do you truly want IU to "aim higher", and if so, who do you think that is? I'm not saying I want that to happen, but it's a fresh take in everything I'm hearing which is the same names recycled:

I like Beard, but his track record is not as dominant as many portray it to be. Great coach, but half his seasons he hasn’t reached 20 wins. Including the two season immediately following his final 4 run. Again, he is inarguably a good coach, but I don’t think he “strikes fear in the basketball landscape.”

You should visit Rupp Rafters and Purdue's shitty board... The one person they fear IU hiring is Beard and it's nearly unanimous.

Why does no one mention Doug McDermott? What's his contract situation? Guy wins and wins, so I'm curious what his contract situation is and what he could do with greater resources?

You think Brad Stevens is an alpha male???

I'm flattered and all, but I'm not seeing it.
BS is calm cool collected and extremely confident. Maybe not a full blown alpha but reminds me of Coach K personality wise. And he has the resume to keep the mob away.

Dusty is always wearing those weird glasses and talks like Mickey Mouse. He’s just a bad fit imo. Our fan base would eat him alive. The first time he hits a bump in the road everyone will be saying “told you we should’ve hired Beard” and that will be it. I’d prefer Cronin honestly.

Regarding Dusty’s voice, I noticed it, too. Wolverines talk that way. Have you not heard their rants?

Any coach hitting that first road bump will bring out the “told-you-so’s”. It has nothing to do with corrected eyesight or vocal cord tension.

Every basketball coach hired in the last 50 years has been unceremoniously fired. Now rather than offering scholarships coaches have to offer contracts. And if a player is still on the team going into his junior year, it’s a sign that they did not live up to expectations.

And when a player commits to play at Indiana, what it means is, they’re probably going to come to Indiana if they can’t get a better offer or going forward. And that’s why it’s extremely important that the entire coaching staff spends their summers flying across country to go to AAU basketball games for 15-year-olds.

And this is why when recruiting the next Hoosier basketball coach the most important selling point will likely be the terms of the severance package.

Painter's name actually popped in my head the other day. But...c'mon. Throw that idea into the 'silly' bucket along with Brad. Now if it's just to force PU to pony up a few extra million....well that's diabolical. Do it. I think PU is Painter's last gig. He's been a Purdue guy (more or less) for the past 35 yrs. He'll probably retire with B1G win totals in the top 5-7 all time in the conference (while never hanging a banner).

With every coaching search I like to visit the UK, PU, and ILL boards and see who they don’t want us to hire. Which hire would make them really scared? This time is it’s obviously Brad, Beard, and this guy.
I can't speak to the other boards but as a fan and poster on Purdue's board, we're not worried about any of those hires. We've already beaten Beard and Dusty this year. The only hire that IU could make that would put fear in the hearts of Boilermakers would be Matt Painter.

I don't think it will be considered, and I don't think he'd consider coming, but I do think he'd love to get a 9-10 million offer to take back to PU and boost his and his assistants pay, ala Mizzou a few years ago. It would be diabolical! Maybe we could have a handshake agreement that we make the offer and he doesn't accept.
