If you ever had to fire someone

“Rich guys think different.” Signed, Abraham Maslow.

Some rich guys are willing to donate half of their wealth to help the less fortunate while others focus on accumulating more.

Others are willing to donate time and expertise for a cause ( thinking of Musk here).

If I understood your article correctly they knew 2 days after the fact that it was only $8M but we're still parroting savings numbers based on the $8B? I'm not sure that helps their case.
How does calculating the correct amount not help their case? They claim the 8M number was always used in their savings calculations. They never used 8B in those calculations.

They were claiming $16B in savings of which half was that $8M until yesterday or so...

There's another interesting nugget I'll point out to you... I hope they are reading the terms and conditions of the contracts being terminated very closely. What's the eventual damage in claims and litigation? That's likely to be a massive, massive number. And the govt will be footing the bill.

Have you ever laid anybody off Ty?

Like, seriously.

I take my fair share of relish when firing a lazy POS. Believe me I do. Or a cheat. But layoffs? Come on man.
I’ve been laid off and seen my CEO go on Squawk Box and happy talk about how the pandemic layoffs will actually exceed the time table to profitability despite major revenue loss. That count?

These people need to get on the job hunt and not cry in their soup about Elon with a chainsaw. That’s what being an adult is.

They get off on it ...

In Elon's case, after the botched peen operation, it's probably to only way he can get off.
I'll go out on a limb and say he won't be around in 5 years. He doesn't look well and reportedly has a drug problem. I would bet on an overdose.

Please read this article:

DOGE is going in there and kicking up a lot of dust. Let’s revisit a year from now and see what the figure sits at.

If he can take 500 Billion off the deficit, I’ll be impressed. Elon seems to be sticking to the 1 trillion figure, which would be incredible without a restructuring of SS/ Medicare.

Squabbling over figures posted on a day to day is fruitless. But if that’s what you want to do, go for it.

I heard 2T originally, but alas 1T would be a start.

It's not a question of whether the real figure is 8B or 55B. The issues are honesty and transparency. I think the article clearly lays out that they are either not being honest in counting the alleged savings or are incompetent. How can anyone trust their alleged results when their reported savings are multiple standard deviations from the reality?

Please read this article:

I read the article. It's wrong. I'll go with DOGE numbers (the people actually doing it). Also, just using common sense, 55 billion seems much more reasonable than 8 billion. Why would anyone care if all they cut is 8 billion. It's a rounding error.

I'll put you in the post-structuralist camp going forward.

Really? I wouldn't call it a donation. The data he is collecting is invaluable. Surely he won't use that as a competitive advantage...
Toasty, remember accusing a fellow associate of a fraudulent plot to bilk investors.

He responded by saying, "You have a criminal mind".

and have half a heart or a conscious, its truly one of the toughest things you will do in life. never once thought about celebrating someone else's misfortune with a chainsaw, Musk is a 1st class prick
It was a WWE move all for show. These clowns are too incompetent to be serious about anything. Besides, taking payrolls away is a very poor and inefficient way to save the trillions they want to cut. Once again, they’re incompetent fools.

Oops.. heavy Trump support GA district getting a bit testy with their representative after just 30 days:

I'll put you in the post-structuralist camp going forward.
Why are you unable to count? That’s all ask. Just simple f#cking math. F#ck it, put me in your camp. I’m only staying though if there are Bitcoiners in it. I’ll walk my happy ass out of that camp if it’s full of bankers and gold bugs. It’s probably a similar feeling you get when you think of white bread.

Sure, but I'm willing to bet that CEO damn well knew what would happen AFTER they did the layoffs (and sorry to hear it, been there a couple times myself). No way, Musk knows what the outcomes will be. not with any certainty.

It is easy when you think they are just a Social Security number who is over paid and under worked along with being a woke obstacle to making the country great again.

DOGE is all about working for We the People and eliminating the leftists who waste our money with their fraud, abuse, and abstructionism.
Yeah, that "abstructionism" has always been the problem.

Nobody will listen to a Moe that uses big words he can't spell. Well, MAGAs probably do, but that's all.

You're going to be surprised how many red right Republicans get fired by DOGE. I can hear them now : "But Hoot told me DOGE was only supposed to fire the leftists!."

You “guys” are some of the most triggered weaksticks ever. It’s hilarious to watch. Problem is half the country is a bunch of weak sniveling babies at this point. Y’all are going to have to toughen up. 4 years is a long time.
Would you have the same opinion if you were the one that just got fired? Like it’s no big deal I’ll just find another job. I don’t think that’s how 50% of the country feels. You’re really out of touch.

Depends on the person. I suspect it’s a bigger jolt to those who go into gov vs a start up, a sales gig, law, other industries. Employment should never be taken for granted.

To prove your point, Paul Dans the Heritage Institute director of the 2025 Plan stated on C-Span that 95% of the federal employees are Democrats.

In trying to find a source for the Dans remark I found surveys having been taken showing the Dems may have a slight majority but nowhere near 95%.

So federal employees leaning towards the GOP are undountedy on the chopping block.

Side note. I now always look for the positive in things.
Today is my first paycheck day and I’m loving this much lower tax bracket!!! 😜
My Brother just reminded me that 2 weeks ago I was in the ZERO % tax bracket so I'm actually paying more now. ...

And just like that, I am back to hating everything. It was a good ride while it lasted I guess.

That is what I worry about. When myself and nearly half the company of get laid off at a silicon valley Fortune 200, sucks but we’ll all land on our feet.

When it’s govees…… I wonder how marketable they are in the private sector. And if they’re all uber talented like Aloha and IUCrazy say, well then this could be a major blessing in disguise, like it was for me.

You’re an anomaly tho. A young Kelley grad somehow possessive of the knowledge that one typically only finds in older very well read persons. A born leader vs goose stepper.

Because the highly skilled, uber talented wake up one day and say....... I think I'll take a Gov job, those private gig's simply pay too much money for me! In Gov I can help people.

That is a completely fair answer, "I hated it but needed to be done." It is like putting a dog down, if one goes out and parties over it they are a sick SOB. One hates it, but one has to do it.
No offense, but I absolutely hate the term “putting a dog down.”

Use “helping them across the bridge” or “easing them into Heaven.”

The coldness of “put him down” just grates on me. Having had to help my boys across was the hardest thing ever. “Put the dog down” is just a horrible way to describe the loss of a soul so close to you. Dogs bring such joy for their brief stay and one of the worst days of your life.

Fair point. Fen 21 is a bad day historically for me on that front. Had to help one cross the rainbow bridge 5 years ago today and he was a really good dog. And then 3 years ago today his buddy was excited for me to take him to the dog park, howled, went stiff, and fell over. A daughter married into a family with vets and they said it was probably a brain aneurysm. He was the happiest dog I knew and him going from excited to gone like that right in front of me shook me. Still does, I would play Long May You Run when we would go to the park. Whenever I hear that song now I tear up.

Have a buddy who loves Great Danes. Don’t know how he does it. Their life span is so short. I’m an English bulldog guy which isn’t great but damn those Danes.

He said he is retired. We could cut his Social Security benefits which are really driving the deficit.

SC, tune into C-Span's Washington Journal on most weekday mornings.

It has a cross section of guest commentators. Also has callers from both parties.

Many conservative callers claim C-Span favors liberal guest commentators. A claim which I find definitely. over blown. Proving to me that people with whom you disagree raise more hackles than those with whom you agree.
