Crean claiming we play positionless basketball is just like Doritos claiming they're Nacho Cheesier.
I figured out what TCT' s "positionless" basketball is. It is the defense. We are never in position - "positionless"! And we were all banging on the offense! Geesh, it has always been right in front of us!
Exactly. They have no idea what their roles are and that becomes glaringly obvious in a close game down the stretch, specifically the last few minutes of a ballgame.
Call it whatever you want, but there still needs to be someone that plays the role of a point or lead guard. Who is that person for us? Newkirk? Johnson?
The positionless concept is a gimmick. The concept breaks down if you have one player that consistently plays a role they aren't comfortable in or doesn't understand what they are doing. Regardless, making 3 point shots hides those breakdowns.
I prefer having players that know their roles and responsibilities on both ends of the court instead of what part of the floor they occupy on offense. At times, our team reminds me of pickup games where everyone thinks they are guards.
