From a pure talent standpoint, that's obvious. If it was somehow known that getting TJD back meant another year of our offense consisting mainly of dumping it down to him, and letting him 'Charles Barkley' the ball and make a move... Whereas if he were to leave, and we got Race back, and that meant our "big" would move more freely inside and out, and the ball would move more freely in and out, and around the perimeter...???
I might still choose TJD...but we do need to fundamentally change how we play sooner or later. Might as well be this offseason.
I don't know if the team would have been better this season if we'd have opened it up more...but I suspect it would have given TJD and Race a better look at what their roles might be in the NBA. And maybe in an offense that moved the ball more inside and out, that was focused more on perimeter players movement and stuff...maybe our guards that struggled this year, would have gotten into more of a rhythm and played better. Kopp, Stewart, Rob, Bates...mainly.
To me its much less about who is playing for us next year, than it is about how they are playing. What style are they playing? Are they as good in minute 36 as they are in minute 16? We could be much less talented and experienced, overall, and still have similar results to this season, if we just improve those things I just mentioned. And it'd be a much more solid foundation heading into the following year and beyond.
