would that put us on the bubble?
don't see us wining at Oregon, Purdue and OSU must winMaybe. Palm has us 1st 4 out. Lunarde still has us in the Next 4 out. Our various rankings are in the 50's. A lot would depend on what other teams in this range do. I'd suggest that if we went 4-1, and won 1 game in the BTT we'd probably be in. That probably means beating PU at home, unless we're winning @ Oregon.
Maryland Purdue UCLA if just could have pulled 1 of those outI could see maybe with a run to Saturday/Sunday B10 tournament, where that might squeak us in to a play in game. But it would also probably require a lot of help from others.
If we get to 9 or 10 B10 wins...it will have been the ineptness at end of game situations that ended up being the final nail in our coffin. At that point, winning even just one of those close, down the wire games, would have changed everything.
As it stands...its a silly notion to think this team has the stones to finish that well, though. We have zero closers on this team, and aren't led by a "closer" coaching staff.

knowing this team, will probably beat Purdue and Oregon and lose the other 3I'd agree. I'm pretty confident we'll win the PSU. OSU, and Washington games. Purdue at home would seem in reach given the game at Mackey. On the road @ Oregon seems a tough one.
Despite our losing streak we're really not that far off making the tourney. It can happen.
If so, it will eventually be relegated to a footnote by this time next year.seems like a PR nightmare in the making if CMW was forced to 'retire'...then the team gets hot, makes the tourney and goes to the S16. Fanbase will be viewed as a bunch of spastic fools by the national media.
sorry and it's just my 2 cents, best long term outcome is quick end to season, make the right hire early in spring, then get to building a new culture and program. Hit the portal, see if any HS seniors might be having second thoughts once new coach is named.
You need to also subtract the auto bids for the power conferences.Just some rough numbers why I think unlikely. I know a lot of criticisms could be made of this but just rough numbers. 68 total bids and 32 automatic (31 tournaments and 1 regular season). Take out the 6 large conferences then you likely have around 26 low ranked teams with auto bids. So 68-26=42 at large bids remaining. Just using NET as a basis then roughly if you are ranked 42 or higher then good chance you are in. I don’t believe our NET would be 42 or higher would be possible with 4-1 record from here out. We are 2-11 quad 1 and have collected a lot of bad beats so hard to move the ranking much and today 57.
Yes. You are right so out of the 42 six of those bids are the big conferences and so likely highly rated so 36 at large bids to still get to the top 42.You need to also subtract the auto bids for the power conferences.
Edit: Never mind, I see you accounted for the auto bids.
Yeah let's make the tournament so we can get bounced in the first round. Yay!would that put us on the bubble?
I edited it also to make clearer.Yes. You are right so out of the 42 six of those bids are the big conferences and so likely highly rated so 36 at large bids to still get to the top 42.
Being viewed as spastic fools by the national media is the least of our dysfunctional concerns. They dismissed us years ago. Whoever we hire at this point will barely be detectable as an unidentifiable blip on the national media’s radar screen. In the ledger book of the media, we’re still on their payback time for Knight’s bullying transgressions. With the list of viable candidates creeping farther down the pecking order, I see no reason why the curse won’t continue.seems like a PR nightmare in the making if CMW was forced to 'retire'...then the team gets hot, makes the tourney and goes to the S16. Nah. Cant have an NC State situation. Now they are stuck with Keatts longer now lolseems like a PR nightmare in the making if CMW was forced to 'retire'...then the team gets hot, makes the tourney and goes to the S16. Fanbase will be viewed as a bunch of spastic fools by the national media.

The way I see it, IU will be hiring a new coach at the end of this season no matter what, even if they win the NC this year (HA!!).Nah. Cant have an NC State situation. Now they are stuck with Keatts longer now lol
I would rather make the tournament, as frustrating as this team has been, I still watch and still want them to win, Woodson is gone no matter what.Yeah let's make the tournament so we can get bounced in the first round. Yay!
what national media? no one cares about NCAA hoops until the tournament. and really who cares what anyone thinksseems like a PR nightmare in the making if CMW was forced to 'retire'...then the team gets hot, makes the tourney and goes to the S16. I see no evidence that this Team has the talent, confidence, and coaching to put together a modest 3 or 4 game winning streak against any level of competition.
Yeah let's make the tournament so we can get bounced in the first round. Yay!
I think so.Does losing a "play-in" game count as "making the tourney"?
Let's get this over with.I would rather make the tournament, as frustrating as this team has been, I still watch and still want them to win, Woodson is gone no matter what.

that was what I was delicately trying to say. Next time I won't dance around it.....we're in a lame duck period. Time cannot move fast enough.Let's get this over with.
Understand, I was one of four sophomores on campus who created a life size effigy of Coach Lou Watson. After another tough BT loss, this time against underdog Wisconsin during a season that began with promise, the best front line in the nation (McGinnis, Downey and Wright) we put a noose around “Lou’s” neck and drug his straw-filled ass across the streets of campus shouting “Watson out of Bloomington NOW!” By the time we got to N. Jordon…excuse me, Eggleston, we were 300 hooligans strong. Our efforts made the front page of the Indy Star and Watson was fired at season’s end.ok mr. gloomy puss
If we beat Purdue and look decent doing it, then I will start to entertain those thoughts. I actually brought up this exact same scenario at work the other day. That scenario being Woodson/team find their balls, get hot, make the tournament, get to S16/Elite8 and then Woodson all of a sudden "feels good enough" to keep coaching. How would/should IU react? Is he still out the door? I don't see it happening but stranger things have, and it sure would be typical of IU basketball in this decade.

Today, 54 years later, I feel we’ve reached that tipping point once again. If we pulled a similar stunt like that today, the Rev Jesse Jackson would be preaching to the nation from his podium in Dunn Meadow. Maybe it’s time to get as lucky with our next coach. Maybe not.
They also had Bootsie White, didn't they? That was quite a disappointing team.
My God, how did we end up here again? I really thought with this roster, even CMW couldn't screw it up. Alas... I hope the folks that funded this team will get behind whoever the new coach is. They may never get us to a championship, but I'm confident whoever we hire won't take a top 10 talent team in the country and not make the tourney.would that put us on the bubble?
Sadly, yes. Besides, the play-in games, I don't know how they decide it, but it's often mid level matchups and not all the worst seeds I don't believe.Does losing a "play-in" game count as "making the tourney"?
