ICE broke into an american citizens home

They took everything they have, including they're money.

They weren't the people they were looking for and had just moved there 2 weeks ago.

This is getting out of hand.
At least some of these raids and arrests of people on the street have involved non-uniformed, masked agents who don’t produce badges or IDs. The targets have no idea what is going on and are understandably terrified.

How is this woman supposed to get her money and other belongings back that were wrongfully seized? She’s not even sure what agency or agencies were involved. Homeland Security? ICE? FBI? They all, at least initially, said “wasn’t us.”

We’re going to see unauthorized copycat crazies pulling this shit before long.

What the hell is happening to this country.

The same thing we asked when ten million crossed the border and we were attacking cops and letting violent criminals out of jail. Where were you then hickory? Crying about trump?

Biden’s border policy was a disgrace, as I’ve said here before. Lankford’s bill was an improvement.

Now let’s talk about the topic of this thread.

She must know what agency they were from. It is a major problem. The perpetrators need to be found and held accountable for this, but please don't pretend to act like this just started under this administration and has never happened before where law enforcement has busted into the wrong house or the wrong person. It is a terrible situation and needs to be fixed.

They fckd up but i don’t care too much. Dems always rallying around this shit is odd. George Floyd etc. I’m just glad your border is fixed and defund is over

You don't care that ICE can break into someone's house and take all their stuff even though they are Americans and weren't the intended targets?

If this was done under the Biden administration, there would have been a lot different response from a lot of people here.

We all know this would not have happened under the Biden administration.

I posted on the wrong thread. I don’t care much about Garcia. Yea this is no good. Hopefully they can sue and make a good out of a bad and get some dough.

Law enforcement makes mistakes like this occasionally. It's regrettable, of course. But they need to just make things right and try not to make them again.

I realize people want to use an instance like this to argue against beefing up enforcement of federal immigration law in general. But it's no sale for me.

In fact, I'd say this is all the more reason that the Trump Administration needs to do everything by the book. Because there are going to be instances like this that the defenders of the status quo will use to say the status quo should be left alone. And why give them the ammo to make that argument?

I agree. Our local cops have done this before.

There's a difference between a regrettable mistake and a willful abuse of power. This is pretty clearly the former.

How many times do they have to get things wrong before something is done about it?

What should be done about it? What could be done about it?

It's unrealistic to think any law enforcement agency could be doing lots of sweeps without making some mistakes. So long as they're dealing with the mistakes appropriately and making a good faith effort not to make them, then I'm not sure what else can be done.

Hell, the Indiana Dept. of Revenue made a mistake with my company number of years back -- and it was a royal pain in the ass that they did. We had bought a company that had a similar name as another company that had a slew of tax issues.

We eventually got it cleared up and they admitted it was their error and not ours. But that's all it was. It wasn't like they deliberately targeted us for something some other company did.

What am I supposed to say to them....why are you going after companies for not paying their taxes?

Couldn't complete a post without a yabbut that it "probably" happened under a previous administration?

How about slowing down and verifying who they're after is actually who they are and where they are? That would be a good start.

They're going to break down the wrong down one of these times and someone is going to be armed and defend themselves.

No clue if it is the former. Hopefully it is but no one can make that determination.

Given this administration's stance on immigration, not sure they should be getting the benefit of any doubt

So you think ICE may have deliberately broke into the wrong house and created this PR headache (not to mention potential lawsuit...once The Hammer gets ahold of it, per mcmurtry's advice above)?

Come on.

And I think it's flat wrong that "no one can make that determination." Perhaps not to your satisfaction. But the determination can be made, and will. And I'm pretty much 100% confident they'll find this was nothing more than an error.

Isn't the first, won't be the last.

You think they hired people dumb enough not to verify anything they did first?

Given this administration, that is believable but you're just making an assumption

Refusing to identify yourself as a law enforcement agent, produce a badge, or even an ID, is not a good faith effort to act in a legal manner.

Not establishing reasonable suspicion of violating immigration laws is not a good faith effort to act in a legal manner.

What else can be done is to have them make some reasonable attempt to follow the law rather than feeling a duty to enact vigilante justice.

Also, there's a pretty important distinction between not verifying something (which would be a mistake) and some kind of deliberate misdeed. Isn't there?

I would like to believe that there is already procedure in place for this. If there is not, there absolutely should be. But mistakes are still going to happen -- all the procedure in the world isn't going to prevent that.

I agree with that in theory, but we keep hearing about so and so being arrested when they weren't who they were after or so and so being deported even though its against judges orders.

This seems to be a case of do it as fast as they can so they can tout numbers.

If people claiming to be border agents can take anybody, any time, into custody, impound their possessions, without warrant or reasonable suspicion, without a uniform, badge, or ID provided upon request,

What is to prevent a bunch of Proud Boys taking the same actions, apparently with the full support of Trump ass-kissers?

Who is to say that some of the reported incidents are NOT being done by Proud Boys or similar vigilante losers? Nobody is standing up to say that they did it.

Like DOGE, it’s a scattershot approach. If there are laws broken, constitutional violations and/or other collateral damage, they couldn’t care less.

Or just some good ol’ boys down the street who don’t want darker-skinned Spanish-speaking people in the neighborhood.

How can we be sure they were ICE personnel and not those undocumented immigrant criminals about which the Trump administration has warned us ?

Did they steal the family's dog or cat?

I agree there are mistakes happening and not necessarily evil-doing. Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence. But I do think there is some pushing of the envelope happening. We need to get people right now, immediately, we can cut corners if need be.
