I think IU should play one on one with Purdue bigs tonight

Foul trouble could be a problem. We have 15 if Hatten gets minutes. If Kaufman Renn gets 30 its ok. No help. No cover on the guards. Dont let them dump 17 3s on us tonight. 2 points is better than 3. Our bigs vs. Them. And not foul. Go Hoosiers. I hope they shoot well, play hard, defense and dont foul. Lets go!

Let him go off too. Maybe Miles Rice can guard him. Fight the ball screens over the top or chase. Let the bigs drop. Communicate and Switch if necessary. What would you do ?

Might even have more fouls than that. I'd guess Mbako and/or Goode could also guard Kaufman Renn. From what I've seen, he uses his quickness and mobility far more to get around big guys, than overpower anyone. Sometimes the toughest defenders are smaller guys who are a bit quicker and can still muscle you enough to get you out of your comfort zone. If Ballo or Reanu struggled with him, honestly to maintain offensive flow, Goode is the next guy I'd try.

Also hard to comprehend why CMW insisted on going right back to 2 bigs. Seems the natural way to ease Reanu back into playing would've been backing up Ballo and getting him back down to 25ish mpg. Who has PU been starting beyond TKR, BS and FL?

Great reply. We could have 25 fouls. I don't want Purdue to shoot 40 free throws tonight. But if we can't guard the line we have no chance. The shit goes in.

Let the bigs drop

Would rather see hard hedge and blitz, make him give up the ball. They've been using short rolls and pocket passes with TKR to counter it but it's better than letting the Amish Leprechaun spray assists to their shooters. Drop coverage hasn't worked against them, hedges and blitzes have. Playing TKR straight up is a no brainer, but Smith is the head of the snake. When they go to TKR in high post and run Smith through screens IU should deny as best as it can, don't let him get the ball back. Disrupt him and it disrupts PUs offense.

Remember when the board said pay would struggle without Edey. Smith won’t be very good without Edey.
Yeah just shows coaching matters. Something IU won’t acknowledge. Hopefully PU blows Iu out so Woodson can be cut loose and the rebuild begins

That's good stuff. But hedge and blitz means IU plays well if they can guard. I would still put no cover. On Loyer. Guard him He's the key tonight.

Yeah, it's not going to happen but the teams that have done it have slowed Smith down considerably. I'm not sure I'd trust Mack, Ballo, or Malik to aggressively double him. It needs to be highly aggressive with full commitment.. soft hedges, half assed doubles rotate and recover won't work.

match up zone. 2 guards and 1 big stay above 10 feet. 1 big, 1 wing stay below. if kauffman goes up to set a screen, a guard is there for the switch. Tough to execute without a lot of practice, but hey, kid was doing this last year too.

Need bigs who can get out on 3s for that but it would be trouble for the "role" man because they will be met with Ballo.

Other option is put Carlyle on Smith full time, no switches. Newton subs in for him. Role is to prevent him from catching the ball, then 94 feet of defense. Yes, Carlyle and Newton. Pure defense.

On screen, stay home on rollers. If Smith wants to hit 15 footers all day, that's his main option. The 3 and the dump off are taken away. Slows the game, keeps scoring manageable. IU try to get Ballo and Reneau a ton of freethrows at the other end. Mgbako and Goode for kickouts. Trey main facilitator for lobs and floaters. Rice, when he brings it up push tempo try to get Smith and Loyer in foul trouble.

I'm for a coaching change. Just guard the 3 at line. Fouls I don't care. Make them get buckets of the bounce. I can live with that Not 17 3s.
He keeps overplaying and cheating at the nail with doubles coming from the wings, while having a rim protector. His philosophy inherently collapses the def, creates double gaps on the wings, and 1 on 2 situations for backline ... it also increases foul rate.

Why not just funnel drivers into the rim protector and have wings stay at home. Nothing is full proof, nor is it a magic wand, but t's obvious in the way this team gets carved up that it should warrant some type of change. That shit doesn't work anymore. Too many good shooters..

Reneau as well shortly after if not earlier
I just hope he plays to give us 10 pts and 5 fouls. That crowd will be raging at the refs. They don't ubderstand what they are looking at but they will rage none the less.
