I sold a ton of stock on Mondays close.

I have always said that go fight for them if thats your calling but nobody does. They just put up signs. I doubt many could even pick it out on a map. My grandparents came her from a communist country to give us a better life. The only country i am fighting for is the USA. Seems others prefer ukraine so they should go fight for them.
And you don't see the difference between supporting them, supporting the right side and the weak who had their country invaded, and sending troops or going to fight yourself? That's a ridiculous stance. I'm pushing 60, and no, I'm not going to fight, but I still know which side we should be supporting... and so do you. Good grief, we've probably had half a dozen Repub reps visit Ukraine or meet with Z, and now suddenly they're all reversing course.

In '94, there was a security agreement signed between Great Britain, the US, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine's sovereignty and security. This was signed when Ukraine surrendered all of the nuclear weapons that were in their possession. It's as simple as we live up to our agreements or we don't.

But you all think it's okay to allow some wanna be president/dictator from a third world country stroll into the white house and tell us what we're going to do? Hell, even Biden didn't let that happen. Check your recent history.
tell us what we're going to do? He was there with his hat in his hand and had to take a brow-beating because he knows he needs US support. Even after, had to bite his tongue and continue to lobby for it. What do you think he was telling us we were going to do?

Also why would you sell stocks on a down day. That's stupid. I made much money because people sold during covid panic which was way worse. I had stock go from 22 to 2. Never sold and bought more at at 2.
Sold at 45 two years later. Investing on panic isn't smart.
I've asked multiple times. What stock? Ticker symbol please.

Ukraine is an extremely corrupt country. All the money and weapons sent have had zero impact on dislodging the Russians. The status quo is a losing plan for Ukraine. The best that can be done is to force negotiations.

It’s too bad that the US cannot right all the wrongs in the world but that’s the way it is. All we can do is the best we can and in this situation it is to force negotiations.

I support Israel and without regard to US policy would be willing to personally defend it. Sorry but not willing to personally defend Ukraine. Call me a coward or pawn of the Kremlin or whatever but that’s my personal position.

It would be possible to reverse what has transpired in Ukraine so long as you are willing to provide nuclear weapons to Ukraine or to escalate to full strategic warfare and to use nuclear weapons on Ukraine’s behalf as required.

Reality can be a bitch.

If you don’t know the difference between your and you’re, you have no place to talk about Trump supporters and their education.

The war in Ukraine is one of the biggest wastes of money in our history. The war is not winnable unless you’re wanting American boots and advanced weapons on the ground. And if you want that, you’re also wanting nuclear war. Do you also want us to go take back Crimea and the parts of Georgia that Russia took in 2008?
Now address the last sentence in raar2's post #14

Willing to defend Israel? What are you still doing here? You should have been on a plane after October 7 then, no?

Nuclear weapons are not an option, and Ukraine has held off Russia, and is hurting them economically, and in the world's eyes. All they have to do is hold their turf and keep forcing Russia to be the agressor. That, and the world and US support is a realistic path. Yes, it will have to be a negotiated settlement, but the US should clearly support Ukraine and recognize Russia as the aggressor. Regardless if Ukraine is corrupt, it pails in comparison to Putin. I have no problem with the majority of the support coming from the Euros and is how it should be. As I said, I'm hoping that debacle with Zelinsky, and the talks with Russia, are just a show to get Euro to step up and take the lead.

You will have to take it on fellow IU fan faith that I am willing to personally defend Israel. :)

Ukraine is having major issues today to reinforce troops. Bleeding Russia has bled Ukraine to unsustainable manpower levels already.

Agree about the Euros stepping up. I wish I had a dollar for every time the Euros said they were going to send troops.

in my estimation there is no more corrupt country than Ukraine. The average household income has been around $2400/yr for decades and this while oligarchs and high level politicians have become very wealthy.

And Putin became one of the wealthiest, deadliest and most powerful men in the world because of his virtue? Arguments about Ukraine being corrupt are fine, but become moot, if not laughable, when you consider the other side. You hold your nose, support them in the crisis and insist on changes, such as the mineral rights agreement, Russian compensation for rebuild and Euro stepping up and probably an exit plan and elections, for Zelinsky. As I said, I actually now think the whole PC debacle was staged to force Euro to step up. Maybe I just hope that Trump is that capable.

It's also interesting complaining about the wealth inequality in Ukraine while supporting the party that supports tax cuts for the wealthy and subsidies for oil and pharma industries while being against anything for the poor as being handouts.

There are bad people in the world. You need to do something effective about it or coexist.

Pretty much. I will just never understand basing a friendship on politics.
Me either.... I'm sure some of my friends are liberal.... don't know and don't care. But some people's whole life is revolves around politics. I have friends on FB that post only political stuff.... especially since Trump was elected.

But did Trump? I think he may have missed this lesson on tariffs.

Short run / Long run. I'm not thrilled. I haven't read a book on it but ..... Tariffs create trade wars, insert gov into the capitalistic process, and muck things up. Both sides escalate and no one wins expect the overlords (gov and corpro-crats). But what do you do with Foreign govs supplementing their industries for years, with little reaction from the US.

Donald Trump is a life long democrat (as are Tulsi, RFK, Elon the fact that many dems still cant get on board reveals the hypocrisy of the "moderate democrat"), trying to do things that he thinks conservatives would do. He got burned by RINO's in his first admin. We'll see how he does with the rawer end of the spectrum.

destroying the Atlantic alliance is not my America.
The Atlantic Alliance is a 70-year-old Cold War relic. The Europeans don’t even take it seriously as shown by their kissing off military spending—for the most part. Do you really believe Spain would defend the Baltics? In addition, the Europeans pour billions and billions into Russia for Russian energy. A meaningful alliance against Russia isn’t possible with that situation. And the European economy is in the shitter anyway because of it’s hamfisted green and migrant nonsense together with various issues in India and Asia. . The Atlantic Alliance isn’t useless, but don’t pretend like it’s your grandpa’s alliance.

My fb feed has people of both parties posting political stuff.

Then the more annoying people that take non-political posts and have to make it political with an insult to the other side.

Did you serve in the US military, or are you serving now?

I can't believe this shit is going to turn out well. I spent 28 years of my life training and teaching how to defeat the Sovit Union. I know they invaded; they can't be trusted. Berating a leader of Ukraine, destroying the Atlantic alliance is not my America. I lost my best friend to this political movement, and I am out. Trumps majority got a c- in high school history, which is really a F, and they haven't read a book in forty years.
Market is back up today and I made some great buys yesterday. Thanks for dumping your shares I probably bought some of them.

There are many countries more corrupt than Ukraine, and Ukraine has been fighting corruption and has moved up in the rankings (up is less corrupt). Russia's corruption is much more than Ukraine.

I have many MAGA friends and family on Facebook that I didn't actually know were MAGA until after the election. MAGAs are letting their MAGA flag fly high now. Seems they feel free to MAGA to their heart's content and to beat down anyone that disagrees. The devotion to President Trump is something to behold. He's got something they just love. Not like, LOVE.

You used to talk about certain Democrats you knew who were racist …

The MAGA crazies are strutting their stuff, but there are a whole lot of Trump voters who are having a hard time reconciling what they thought they were getting and what has happened so far. Of course, they're not shouting their misgivings from the rooftops.

You used to talk about certain Democrats you knew who were racist …
They were undoubtedly racist and probably still are. In college I overheard a local Democrat big wig tell another Democrat that he'd vote for the blackest n-word before he'd vote for a Republican. After Obama was elected, I listened to a couple of guys (union members based on what I heard) at the golf course give each other shit for voting for an n-word. I don't think these people thought I could hear them, but maybe they just didn't care. I don't know. It just reinforced my experiences which indicated that there were tons of racist Democrats out there that hated Republicans more than minorities. Unfortunately, I think the MAGA movement sucked a lot of those types of people into the Republican party. Now they can hate Democrats (and they don't hide that even a little bit) and minorities. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are plenty of racist Democrats out there.

I know a guy who quit talking to my neighbor after 2024 after 20 years of friendship. He couldn't believe it. I'm just glad none of my liberal friends have sunk to that level. My hard-core teacher liberal mother in law hates trump but we just dont talk politics. It's pointless honestly nobody is changing anyone's mind.

I mean if your life got awful and horrible in one month than leave. Plenty of countries in Europe to move too with utopia for them.
I am not sure how utopian Europe will be when they have to start spending more money on their military.

No argument from me that being poor in America is a whole lot better than poor in many/most other parts of the world. But, this isn't about corruption in Ukraine, that's just the "party talking point" that's come out because there is no other way to justify not supporting Ukraine. It just amazes me how many folks will argue against something and then reverse course 180 degrees as soon as it comes out of Trumps mouth. Russia has been our enemy for everyone's life and yet suddenly we're accepting/backing them because Ukraine, like much of the world, has corruption (but not nearly to the degree of Russia)?

Why would you lose a friend over politics. I have several liberal friends. I'd never let politics ruin a friendship.
I hear ya, I think that used to be the norm. But politics have become so partisan and personalized challenging our very morals and integrity. Anymore it feels like asking a friend for a loan. You just don’t do it. I prefer a separation between business and personal life and now politics and friendship. But yes I agree it’s sad and a sign of the times.

A further example of this is my family (Who is Jewish) used to have a monthly get together with a born again Christian family. We often celebrated what we had in common, a strong sense of identity and moral judgement. We even vacationed together. It was a great opportunity for my kids to understand you can meet, create memories and love thy neighbor with people outside of your culture. But somewhere along the way we had a falling out. It wasn’t even intentional. Covid happened, we understood we were on the opposite sides of the fence, our opinions on sexuality and inclusiveness were different and suddenly we didn’t feel we could be ourselves around them. It’s sad, but regretfully this is what’s happened.

These threads always have huge chunks of speculation and assumption in them.

I'll play.

I know Reagan could have expressed the same ideas to/about Zelensky without handing the left a photo op.

Trump does not "lack" nuanced diplomacy - he abhors it. His message to Zelensky is that Ukraine will do what USA and Russia and China has decided they will do, or the war will go on and Ukraine will die slowly. It's about commerce - not geopolitics. Trump doesn't give a damn what some trans-teaching Euro state feels about NATO. And he think the US wins any tariff war, so he uses it.

Blunt "big ***** small."

NSFW or little ears:

Smart. I couldn't defend or explain siding with Russia after they invaded a sovereign country and attacked, killed, maimed, destroyed, imprisoned and abducted it's citizens either, not to mention sacrificing their own countrymen and soldiers along the way, either. Besides, I'm sure you're busy packing; you've got that plane to catch to Israel.

Probably true that we have less poor than many other countries but my point was more about them pointing to the wealth gap as evidence of corruption when they support the party that loves to increase the wealth gap here at home.

Yea, you are 100% correct on why MAGA is using corruption accusation to defend Trump's actions.

It’s probably going to be a good move, selling your stocks. But not for any reasons you seem to believe. You lucked out on this one. Probably won’t serve you well in the long run, with investments. Good luck brother.

There's a difference between letting a foreign leader tell us what to do and being hostile towards said leader when they aren't the enemy.

I'd also love to hear your take on why it was ok for dictator Putin to be giving Trump marching orders? It shouldn't matter what foreign leader we are talking about when it comes to trying to tell us what to do. And it's even more wild when letting an adversary tell us what to do.
