. . to have a sports book at Great American Ball Park, open year round, starting this coming January.

Wonder how Pete Rose feels about this. Banned from baseball and, now 81 years old, unlikely to be enshrined in the HOF before he passes, Pete might just be saying, “wtf?”

The rules were the rules when he violated them. I loved Rose as a player and he was doing well as a Reds manager, but I don’t have much sympathy for him. I do believe he should be in the Hall of Fame though. He’s served a reasonable amount of punishment time.

A lot to agree with here. But it’s time to extend the olive branch.

I’d have zero sympathy if Rose had done anything to impact the outcome of a game, such as that done by McGwire, Bonds, Sosa and Clemens.

The rules haven't changed with respect to players or managers betting on games - it is still a violation of MLB rules, with the same penalty.

Speaking of Ohio gamblers, reminds me of my buddy Art and an article in the Star I just read describing him being found unresponsive in a hotel room. I was going to start a thread discussing Art and may still. But for now I wanted to add to your comments about Pete...

I was still booking plays for Art in Vegas during the 1990 WS. He bet on the Reds every game, and we would have made some major cash, except for the fact that he played parlays and usually ended up losing back in the evening all of the cash he had won in earlier games...

But I do remember him telling me that he went to at least 1 and possibly two of the games with his buddy Pete. It's a long time ago and my memory is foggy, but I seem to remember getting a message on my beeper with a number to call, and when I called him back he said he was at the game with his buddy Pete. Imagine the damage those 2 degenerates could do together...
