The IU administration is clueless. Next year is a total waste, IMO and we just let an Indiana guy go to Michigan. What are we doing!?!

Hard to take watching the NCAA tourney. We’re not even close right now and a dude that would have put the sixth star on our shorts just went to Ann freaking Arbor.

I need more wine…

Actually, the guy who would've put the sixth star went to Columbus...in 2004. While Adam Herbert wanted to make sure a person who wasn't white was the coach, even though the guy was mediocre at best.

This is dead program walking.

May could end up being a bust but i am pretty sure he will recruit the heck out indiana. Man lets say he does well at michigan it will be beilien all over again. Bottom line is we had to get him now or the ship would sail.

I bet anything Dolson will hire the next flash in the pan guy. With May gone you know he won't go after Pearl or Beard so guess what the next Archie Miller guy will be the next coach. This is how our administration does things like a blind man picking out a porno.

I’m not so sure Dusty May isn’t the next Archie Miller.

I bet he hires michael lewis who seems like a great guy but has proven nothing. I dont think he will ever attempt to go after those guys because he might actually be able to get them. IU it seems just does not want to hire a great coach.

IU has its coach at least through 2026. His name is Mike Woodson. If he makes the Big Ten Tournament next year, he gets an automatic extension.

I would disagree that Michael Lewis has “proven nothing”. Last season his team was very competitive, this season was more challenging. Very typical of the mid-major environment.
But he needs more HC seasoning to be an IU candidate.
As I have said before, anyone who goes right back at CRMK deserves a look. Gutsy.

Maybe. We'll see if May fails at Michigan the way that Miller failed at IU.

I think a fair argument could be made that May IS different from Miller, though. May coached FAU up from absolutely zero. FAU was terrible before May. Miller, on the other hand, inherited a Dayton program that was already doing well. In fact, Dayton is STILL doing well, even after Miller.

I feel like some IU fans are throwing shade at May at this point just to cope. Or, to defend CMW. LOL.

Do we have any 2024 recruits yet?

I think May will be great. Guard heavy and modern style. Learned how to coach D under Bob Knight. BIG is really changing with PAC 12 teams coming into conference

Wait a sec. You saying that Sampson was mediocre?

What?

May, IMO, is the absolute definition of the next flash in the pan guy!
Look at his TOTAL record.
He might be good but then again.....

And if IU would have hired him, you probably would have bitched.

Wait a minute, weren't you always defending Woodson?

He’s the hot young coach much like Miller was. He could end up not working out too. There are no guarantees.

I did not realize that...just had not paid enough attention.

I hereby rescind that statement. I cannot guarantee or put in stone that we make the Big Ten Tournament.

If Dusty May had been offered both the Indiana and Michigan jobss, he'd have have been smart to choose Michigan anyway, and probably would've unless he is stupid.
With the current IU administration and athletic department leaders, Michigan is a better job. Politics there are geared toward athletic success, not away from it like politics at IU.
So, we didn't lose out on anyone anyway.
Sucks we'll have to play Michigan coached up. They are going to be a regular problem, even if by some lucky stroke we do eventually get good.

Yea. It’s hard to know. Especially since none of us have met Archie or Dusty or have been able to get commentary on what they did to succeed before their big move.

Building a program at a large school is different from Dayton or FAU. FAU probably took more work that Dayton as you noted.

Michigan will be parallel universe IU with Dusty.

While I think Dusty is risky (I’d rather hire someone from a big school), I am jealous they got a new coach and we are stuck.

First off he is a IU guy so he is not just another guy before Woodson we begged for this. Second he has built a program from nothing to a top 25 program. And unlike Miller he actually has a pulse and a personality.

So it's good to hire an alum or is it stupid? Getting really hard to remember who has said what in regards to this topic.

Before Woodson we wanted a Indiana guy. Woodson had been gone for 40 years and not even coaching for for the last 10 years. I think May fit the bill more then Woodson college experience Indiana guy young good personality built a program from nothing.

Dayton was already good. FAU was literally nothing.
This is the first year Dayton has gotten in the NCAAT since Miller left, though it should be the second. Grant’s best team was screwed out of the tournament by COVID. That team may have at least matched Miller’s Elite Eight appearance.
