You have time now. We did not as my dad died the year the changed the law. More than 9 months have passed.
If your in-laws money is in a tax deferred plan like a 401k, yiu could have them change the beneficiary.
BCC - do you own a business?

Exactly. Decline the inheritance…
I'm not a financial expert. But compounding interest is very useful.Who would give up money just because they have to pay taxes.
70c on the dollar is a lot better than zero
The good news is nothing else really changed from an inheritance standpoint. The government just wants their money quicker from tax deferred plans like inherited 401k and IRA.I'm not sure of the details. My FIL retired from Quaker in Danville, IL so he has a pension from there.
I know we've conversed before. They live in a little town in Vermillion County. They live on 5 acres and haven't had anything but car insurance and an electric bill since 1984.
My wife's grandpa is 99 this year. He bred and sold racing horses. There could be a lot coming down the line. I should probably prepare, like you, for my wife. If I live to 58 it will be a family record, at least to my grandparents.

My wife is from Potomac. The good news is nothing else really changed from an inheritance standpoint. The government just wants their money quicker from tax deferred plans like inherited 401k and IRA.
Yep. I live just on the edge of the small town of Heyworth in Mclean county.
Small world. One of my good friends from here grew up in Oakwood, IL. Much older than you guys as he graduated in 90. He was an all state runner who ran Cross at DAC and EIU. Last name is Trask. My wife is from Potomac.
I graduated from USI in Evansville 2008. Lived in Tilton, on the south end of Danville for a few months.
She turned me on to Monicals pizza and their sweet and tart dressing. I learned it's not French dressing and who dips in ranch.
That was my joke, which no one seemed to get…Who would give up money just because they have to pay taxes.

I know Oakwood, good truckstop food. We take that exit and go north to get to her parents.Small world. One of my good friends from here grew up in Oakwood, IL. Much older than you guys as he graduated in 90. He was an all state runner who ran Cross at DAC and EIU. Last name is Trask.
We eat a lot of Monicals and the famous sweet dressing. They sell their pizzas frozen in tbe restaurants around here.
Someone isn’t familiar with the phrase “calm as Hindu cows”.
Bruh, duh?
I never insinuated that they eat sacred cows, but they certainly export and eat "Beef" in India, even some sects/castes of Hindus.
I didn't make the silly claim the congressman did, nor did I make the throwaway statement "Getting Indians to eat beef"...
Now if you had said "Getting Indians to eat the sacred cow" or "Getting Indians to eat American Beef" I would've left it alone. I've eaten Water Buffalo, like it and if it were as affordable as our beef, I would prefer it. That said, it's still beef to me.

They built a Monicals on the south edge of Zionsville years ago. That crisp crust stuff was different and pretty good for a change of paceSmall world. I lived in Columbus oh. Right next to a donatos. It grew on me. @Ohio Guy same donatos? My sister lived in Zionsville years ago. I always enjoyed the pepperoni pizza from Donatos when we visited.
I'd guess so. Donatos was started in Columbus and was franchised out around Ohio. I didn't know they had them in other states, but it makes sense.I lived in Columbus oh. Right next to a donatos. It grew on me. @Ohio Guy same donatos?

Another big market drop. How long can this go on before the damage becomes irreparable? The economic/financial news just keeps getting worse and worse. 10Y Treasury yields are spiking while the USD is cratering. And equities are still volatile, favoring the bears.
This stupid game of chicken needs to end and it needs to end soon. It's more likely than not to touch off a domino effect that will not just suddenly spring back to normal once either Trump or Xi blinks. If that happens, even if/when he does relent, he could spend a good part of the rest of his presidency dealing with a deep recession.
What a spectacular own goal this has been. Brilliant. It's right up there with this classic.

They didn't lie about not caring about the markets this year. Putting that aside gold is killing it and Bitcoin is starting to look like a pecker on pervert row. By the way gold has now outperformed the S&P 500 over the last two decades. Perhaps all of us sound money fools know a thing or two.The economic/financial news just keeps getting worse and worse. 10Y Treasury yields are spiking while the USD is cratering. Are you making this crap up? The President’s approval ratings are tanking. Bigly:Time to really ramp up those resistance protests!!
Monday, April 21, 2025
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 52% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-six percent (46%) disapprove.
The latest figures include 35% who Strongly Approve of the job Trump is doing and 37% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -2. (see trends)
But think of all of the underprivileged that will benefit….I am doing all I can to leave it to my kids. I won't need it. Just hate the 24 percent tax hit.
Trump promised prices would come down in day one. Still waiting.Just like inflation was transitory. Let me know when all of this actually happens.
Biden did no such thing. He didn't drop the COVID immigration restrictions until mid 2022, and the GOP led Congress held up legislation to address. And part of winning was making sure Harris was not elected period. Kind of like to you winning was getting biden in even though he destroyed the economy and left the border wide open.
Consider when and how inflation came about, hard to pin that on Biden. Despite my views on how poorly Trump handled COVID, it's hard to pin inflation on Trump, even though COVID payments and expanded unemployment started on his watch. Most liberals did not care about paying higher prices . So If you are expecting people to say they wish they could change their vote good luck with that.
Plenty of Trump-voter buyer’s remorse out there. But it’s their own fault. They didn’t do their homework. Trump is doing everything he said he would as set forth in his speeches and in Project 2025.Trump promised prices would come down in day one. Still waiting.

You're being disingenuous here.

(Cue McMurtry's anti-Biden diatribe)
The difference is, Bailey, some issues aren't about sides. It's about reality.
Now as it relates to tariffs, this is a self-inflicted wound vs. any misstep Trump had with COVID. You're interested in that discussion. You're just interested in drawing up sides because you think left of you is Left.
I know a lot of people who wish they can change their vote. I have often voted on the GOP side of the aisle. Hard not to where I live. It's not sides.
What legislation has Trump required to mitigate illegal immigration?Trump promised prices would come down in day one. Still waiting.

I don't know what you're asking about. I didn't bring up anything Trump did to mitigate it. I commented on the ignorant statement that Biden left the border wide open. What legislation has Trump required to mitigate illegal immigration?
Yep or parker but the liberals on the cooler probably think they are just hillbillies with missing teeth, etc.Not all rich dudes wear pin stripes and play the market

You state that the GOP led Congress held up legislation to address the immigration crisis, the point is no action was needed if there hadn’t been a dereliction of duty by your boy. Blaming it on Congress is disingenuous.I don't know what you're asking about. I didn't bring up anything Trump did to mitigate it. There were restrictions enacted through preceding legislation during COVID that dramatically slowed immigration from anywhere.

No, she wouldn't.While she would get 0.00% of votes from the cooler liberals she would do well with actual real swing voters and moderates.
