The Indiana University men's soccer team opened its 2014 campaign with a 1-1 tie against the No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas Friday night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium for day one of the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.

Junior Femi Hollinger-Janzen was the goal scorer for IU in the 26th minute, while Georgetown came back to knot things up in the 58th minute on a score from junior Brandon Allen.

Indiana (0-0-1) will close tournament play Sunday at 2 p.m. against the 12th-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles who fell to Notre Dame by a 2-1 score in a match earlier tonight.

It was a new-look Hoosier squad tonight as seven players who had never appeared in an official match for Indiana took the field, including sophomore Trevor Swartz who were part of the starting lineup.

The Hoyas got the first good look of the night in the 12th minute when Allen re-directed a ball served into the penalty area, forcing IU goalkeeper Colin Webb to make the save as he went to the ground on his left.

Webb would finish with four saves on the night, while his Georgetown counterpart Tomas Gomez tallied three.

In the 16th minute a header from Hollinger-Janzen off a long throw-in from senior Jamie Vollmer was stopped by Gomez to keep things scoreless.

Things wouldn't stay scoreless for long as Hollinger-Janzen netted his first goal of the season, set up by the play of sophomore Tanner Thompson who was making just his second career start.

Thompson crossed a ball into the box from the left side, directed at junior Andrew Oliver. Oliver nicked it to the goalkeeper, but Gomez was able to clear the ball out. The rebounded landed right at Hollinger-Janzen, who fought through traffic with a low, hard shot into the back of the net.

Hollinger-Janzen is the Hoosiers' top returning scorer from 2013 after scoring five goals a season ago.

Just minutes later it could have been a 2-0 Indiana lead as Thompson again found Oliver, but his 1v1 shot against Gomez sailed high.

Indiana went into the halftime break up 1-0 despite being out-shot 9-5, with the Hoyas also holding a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.

It was less than 13 minutes into the second half when a dangerous Georgetown side broke through as Allen scored his first of the season. Alex Muyl crossed a ball into Allen, who spun and hit it past Webb to make it a 1-1 match.

Just two minutes later it was the right post coming up with the save on Muyl's shot that nearly put the Hoyas up 2-1.

Indiana began to gain more possession as the match wound down, and Vollmer nearly put IU in the win column with just under five minutes left in regulation. His shot on the run from 20 yards out forced a leaping save from Gomez to send the game into extra time.

Georgetown put up two shots in the first overtime period, neither of which tested Webb in goal. Neither team could muster a shot in the final 10 minutes of action.

Hollinger-Janzen, Oliver and Thompson had two shots apiece for the Hoosiers. Jay McIntosh all came in off the bench for their first action in the Cream and Crimson.

Tournament play continues Sunday as Notre Dame takes on Georgetown at 11:30 a.m. ET.
