His true colors... Cal's Gov. Newsom forgot (?) how he stood with the NIL

But he tries....he tries.....

There's a recent interview out there with a reporter asking him what he thinks about LA possibly reinstituting indoor masks within two weeks. he goes on to say their (his) decision making is always bottom rung up and that everyone has to realize that the state of California is a big state and what works for one area doesn't work for another, and that's how decision making needs to be approached. You can't see the interviewer, but I'm assuming the open mouth hitting the ground has to look something like the Holland Tunnel.

Yet being for nil but against ulca going to the big ten is hardly opposites.

Meh, until he starts righting laws as a way of getting revenge on companies, it is a whole lot of meh. Hardly to the level of fascist desantis

It's clear you did not read the entire commentary.

Regarding your attempt to derail the thread...... DeSantis did everyone a favor closing down The Mouse's huge tax loophole.... he couldn't have done it to a more deserving corporation.

It isn't the "don't say gay" bill but saying teaching to kids from K-3rd grade not to teach sexual issues. You on the left say "don't say gay" but it doesn't show up in the law. Education has too many gay teachers in lower classes wanting to "groom" young children and it shows in society. Look at the numbers from each decade of the number of gays and trans. Despite the numbers being under 10% it is now over 40% and you see why so many parents love the law.

Groom because they happen to let students know they have a same sex partner?

Is it grooming when a teacher says they have a different sex partner or is that ok because that is approved?

Sorry but no teachers were sitting in class turning kids gay by selling how awesome being gay is lmao.

But as asinine as the don't say gay bill is, the bigger issue is desantis going after Disney because they came out against the bill. The gop has never been about closing tax loopholes for the wealthy...except apparently if they piss them off. Politicians doing revenge legislation is opening a huge can of worms against the 1st amendment.

So you see the rise in those numbers and think its because a child is taught to be? Its not that society has always had that number of people with alternate lifestyles but they were forced to hide it because they knew they'd be shunned by religious zealots?

And if our goal is to stop grooming children, can we start with churches?

Where’s Newsom’s hypocrisy? He’s a transparent and often shameless politician with unlimited ambition, but his complaints about UCLA’s defection aren’t really connected to his support of NIL. Not a well-conceived Op-Ed.

But as asinine as the don't say gay bill is

How is it asinine?

Here is what the bill states according to NPR

"Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards."

You think that is a bad thing? How can anyone be against that law?
You will also notice that it does not mention either straight or gay orientation.

Kids get enough sex thrown at them anyway from the general culture, it doesn't need to be in the schools before fourth grade.

So correct. It is the Lefties' own slanted interpretation that they are against.

What a bunch of BS! It states this-

"If signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the bill would prevent public school educators and school staff from discussing topics related to gender identity and sexual orientation in the classroom — which could include simply discussing one’s own sexuality or gender identity or that of parents and family members."

It conveniently does NOT mention that it is only K-3. In general, that would be kids 8 and under. Good grief, kids that age should be oblivious to sex in any way, shape or form. I know I was but that was a different era and a simpler time.

Once again, I will ask.

You think that is a bad thing?

I think it was political grandstanding that will cause more harm than it fixes. I think you are whitewashing what it does and only focusing on what the gop wants you to focus on

They obviously had their agenda but IMO, it's effect isn't as dire as the political article you posted. Once again, we are talking about kids 8 and younger. They should not be subjected to ANY more sexual content then they already are.

What harm could it possibly cause? That article you posted, IMO, was talking about kids older than 8. I don't care if a kid has two daddies, two mommies or one of each, at that age sex, gender identity, etc., should not be part of the curriculum. How can you think it should be?

Whitewashing? How so?

I am honestly interested in how you formed your opinion?

If I understand the “dont say gay “ bill, it just says schools wont teach gay lesbian info until third grade. Do I have that wrong?

I do not think it was just done for “grandstanding”. I think he is not in favor of the woke part of the democratic party (birthing persons and not mothers?). The demarcation is political when you are a politician.
I do not know if I am correct, but I would have defined grandstanding as AOC placing her hands behind her back as if she were hand cuffed when she was not.

Yes, in my understanding, you are wrong. It doesn't mention ANY sexual orientation so gay lesbian or STRAIGHT orientation or indentity is not to be mention in K-3. IMO, as it should be.

Basically, the left is framing it as anti gay thus the "don't say gay". And while this might have been Desantos (sp) and the Fla GOP's main objective, the bill leaves out any language targeting the homosexual community.

Therefore, I can not see the objection to the bill and I don't believe that eliminating the whole sexual subject from kids 8 and younger does any harm whatsoever regardless of the article that IU Hickory posted.

When did your school teach sex ed?

Mine - it was part of physical education in 7th grade. We had maybe 3 guys who could shave and 6 girls with detectable boobs, so it was time. It was part of anatomy. (I memorized all the bones! And tried to get Mary Jane to ... well, that's another story.)

IMO, K-3 is no place to teach sex ed. Not the time/place to teach physics either. Or statistics. Or welding. Or wood shop. (Hell, our basketball COACH stuck his hand in a joiner once. Lost 3 fingers and bled all over my dad's car. The point being - again - time and place.)

If Mom and Dad, or Mom and Mom, or Dad and Dad, or Mom and Mom and Dad, want to discuss sexual issues at home, its OK with me. But school? K-3? Really?

I think folks have just become de-sensitized and politicized and polarized by irresponsible media and social media apps, and are just looking for reasons to pick political fights.

And this is one of the dumbest ever.

Can you imagine "show and tell" the week after the masturbation lecture?

And regardless of what people think about the bull shit that is the don't say gay bill, people in this country should be free to say their opinion on it without fear of government reprisal via revenge legislation.

I have a feeling more people would care about first amendment rights if a dem governor was coming up with revenge legislation against the homophobes at hobby lobby

8th grade science class, we had a first yr teacher and I remember her deciding to sit on the desk of one of those chairs than had an arm desk with no legs. Some guy had his feet and moved them. Desk went over, skirt went over her head and that was the best sex ed demonstration of the class.

The shop class is a good example , I remember myself slipping in a jointer at 19. I have really quick reflexes and yanked back so in reality it was minor. No cell phones, working on my house I didnt live in so had no phone. Drove into town with a rag wrapped around it soaked in blood. Went to drug store to get some band aids and antiseptic and the poor girl at the counter started to pass out when I pd . It wasn't really all that bad I had yanked them out quick enough but I have a scar from each of the 3 knives, one on each finger.

How about drivers ed . Should we start teaching that at kindergarten as well? I remember the films, a couple people passing out at the 1950's accident films they used to show. I remember one where a semi had a load of pipe that came through the cab so you can guess the picture. Another one a guy that had been burned alive.I say start showing 1st graders this stuff.

7th grade Health Class here, the poor red-faced coach had to endure
boisterous laughter through the whole lecture.

We got to watch "the movie" in fourth grade. It was about the reproductive cycle and the differences between boys and girls. Back when there were just TWO sexes!! The girls and boys didn't watch the movies together either.

I whole hardly agree with the rest of your post!

WTF are you talking about? First amendment?? Are you drunk or high? There is NO 1st A violation here. It is what is taught/told to our children and K-3 should be a sex free zone.

You still have asked my previous questions so I doubt you will answer this one but I will ask it anyway.

What is BS about the bill? AND

You think that is a bad thing?

Come on, take a stand and tell educate all of us!

I was referring to desantis's revenge legislation when disney came out against the don't say gay bill. How did that go over your head?

That loophole for disney was in place for decades but shortly after Disney made a comment against the don't say gay bill, it became untenable for desantis and the gop? Coincidence?

I guess disney is just not allowed to have an opinion. No 1st amendment for someone that says something against the almighty dictator of a Florida governor. He will smite thee with new legislation if you dare cross the mfer

I don't give a flying F*** about some tiff with Disney and that is not what we were talking about any way.

VERY interesting and, IMO, very revealing that you consistently fail to answer any of my questions. Even funnier when you consider that I am truly interested in your viewpoint and how you arrived at it.

IMO, typical liberal, when questioned about their beliefs and wanting reasons why they formed it, they go into either attack mode, name calling or change the subject.

Kudos, you followed the play book.
