Actually, I did something similar only more simplistic...

and there is no doubt that Izzo has been terrific at winning more games than he should by seed. My argument is that quite often they've under performed during the season, thus earning a lower seed than their talent suggested. Then in March they play up to their capabilities.

No matter how you slice it, it's still amazing what he has done. The last few years I've become a fan again because he's proved to be more effective with less talented teams than he even is with very talented teams.

Honestly, what turned me against him was the Crean hiring. I was so against Crean and everyone was so excited (after the initial surprise) to get an Izzo disciple. I started digging deeper into Izzo and found that they were going through a stretch of low seedings with top 5 talent. I probably have been too obsessed with the idea that Izzo was over rated just to debunk Crean. In the end Crean debunked himself and Izzo proved to be exactly the kind of coach that I typically am a fan of.

As great as Izzo has been for MSU, I can't help but wonder if he would still be employed at UK or UCLA with his tendency toward Buffalo Bill bridesmaid status.

Yeah, this can lead you to another conclusion

He might just be vastly underachieving in the regular season and earning inappropriately low seeds in the tournament.

Either way, something 'clicks' for him and his players in the tournament that doesn't in the regular season.

But 7 standard deviations above the average expected wins? That's so far beyond the right tale of distributions...it's like an outlier of outliers. It's definitely not luck.
