But there are two senses here: (1) that private rocketry in 2000s wouldn't be a thing without circumstances that the govt created prior to that, from the late 50's on (I just don't understand how one can argue against this point) and (2) that SpaceX wouldn't exist now if it didn't get govt grants and govt contracts.
I think you're arguing against the second one, right?
Satellites have become much more common over the last 20 years. Musk foresaw that or got really lucky--I'd bet on the former.
By the way, launch revenues are far below $285 billion:

NASA was never intended to be the Amtrack of rockets. Once the shuttle program ended, ULA/NASA bought Russian heavy lift rocket engines. Musk ended that and did it with private funds. Government contracts came later.

I'm saying that, given the market size, someone would have done what Space X did without the gov't subsidies being in play. The only question is how much longer would it have taken? Did the gov't create "space travel" and Satellites - absolutely. Was it done only by gov't employees - No. Gov't was the catalyst in the 50s and 60s because it was defense related without a profit motive. Now there's a profit motive.
Launch revenue is a smaller piece, but that's still a $7B business that is key to the larger market potential.
Planet Labs started as a company that wanted to put other people's payloads in space and figured they should put their own in space. They morphed into a $200M+ company that developed its own inexpensive satellites and now sells imaging services.
You look at the size of the overall market potential and it's humongous. There's private money flowing into this at unprecedented rates all in the hopes.
The US gov't is out of the rocket business.
I voted for Trump. Does that make me a Trumpophile? One thing I have noticed is some people expected that Trump's win would cause his voters to just go crazy with excitement. Most of us just got up and went to work the next day. I will admit that I did exhale when he won. But that isn't jumping up and down. If Harris I had won she would have wrecked the country. Her voters should be the ones who are super excited. They still get to live here as they always have.

My guess is that what most people here take issue with regarding your support for Trump is how you try to reconcile being a Christian pastor and Trump's open distain for true Christian values and beliefs.

Investing well & being a good employee have nothing to do with inflation. Individually one may mitigate its impact, but that isn’t an option for all. How does investing relate to the prices of staples? How can a good employee in a low earning job overcome the effects of inflation?

What does Harris' faith (or lack thereof) have anything to do with Trump's lack of morality and following of Christian teaching? This wasn't a question or concern of Trump that only popped up when Harris replaced Biden earlier this fall.
Of course, she doesn't because she can't. Even fewer of her views coincide with evangelical views than Trump's and she has a track record of supporting things that evangelicals would never support.
I don't understand the evangelical support for Trump, but there's zero chance they support a candidate who wants the things she has advocated for so strenuously.

I think the market for motor vehicle travel would exist even without government building roads and highways. Air travel would exist even without government airports. Government provides the money to satisfy market demands created by U.S.
I. Don’t deny the government role in the space industry, but that was largely as a customer. The government created objectives and private industry figured out how to fulfill them. The market for commercial space use would have happened anyway.
The Saturn V, which I think was a high point of NASA endeavors was a conglomerate led by German rocket scientists we rounded up post war. Ike put the Germans with the Army, then transferred them to the newly created NASA. That was the hay day of NASA. Rocket science. Since then private contractors with government contracts provided the hardware.
Musk revolutionized rocketry by mostly disregarding NASA/Boeing/Lockheed/Rockwell experience, not by using it. The result is reusable rockets.

This is deflection. We're not talking about the lesser of two evils here, which I guess is something most Americans have wrestled with in the voting booth to some degree. That's a different topic entirely.
This isn't even about Trump the politician. It's not even an arguable point that Trump is morally bankrupt based solely on his own words and actions over the last several decades. I don't know why so many people identifying as Christians carry so much water for Trump. I guess it makes them feel better about playing team politics and voting for the guy, I suppose.
