Looking at the home schedule I'm thrilled to see the two 4 o'clock starts in Sept. along with the 3:30 homecoming start. Nice to be able to spend the early afternoon tailgating and still not have such a late night. I hate the night games but I can live with one in early September. Fortunately I only live an hour away from Bloomington. I don't mind the noon starts myself but they are crowd killers (especially students) and a hardship for people who have serious drive time.

Hopefully we'll have early success and the optimal start times will build enthusiasm that will carry through the season. I'm ready for some football.

Great Point. The later start also helps with traffic and spreads out the flow. Much better for so many reasons.

It would be interesting to study attendance figures comparing the various start times.

I love night games.
Allows you to catch up and watch many games during the day.

Night games tend to build more enthusiasm and energy.

a topic discussed many times here over the yrs, with numerous polls as well, seems like night games are the most popular, with late afternoon games 2nd, and noon/1 pm starts by far the lest coveted.

when talking early and mid sept games, evening starts are even more preferable, due to the heat factor in easy bake stadium.

not to mention the fact that many older fans who don't get out that much, suddenly get hit with 4 or 5 hours of intense sun in one afternoon, which is not healthy.

when we play the Podunk States, i only go if it's a late start, as enjoying Btown and the campus, rather than the game itself, are the main draw for me when playing a small school, and tailgating and walking the campus are much more fun pre game than after.

What you leave out about us old folks, those night games leave many us driving for hours after midnight. That is not a particularly healthy thing, either.

I guarantee Fred Glass prefers later kickoffs. Personally, I like the 3:30-6 window. More time to sleep in and not too late getting home.

Tailgating is gonna rock this year. The lots are so much improved and the star times are perfect.

As a student, I can say first hand that the late starts will only help attendance in regards to the student population. I remember last year waking up at 8am to start tailgating, and by the time noon rolled around i was drunk and ready to take a nap(it was either the booze or the thought of Diamont at QB). Student attendance won't change dramatically until the team consistently wins, but it can't hurt to have a little more time to sleep in.

That's rough. I'm getting home from work at 6:30 am and heading up the road at 10 for the first home game. I really feel for you.

The joke must have gone over your head; understandable with all those long hours on third shift. I'll break it down into simpler terms:

Late Starts -> More Students

More Students -> Electric Atmosphere

Electric Atmosphere -> Key stops on third down

Oh I get it. I just get tired of hearing how horrible the students have it with those noon starts when they are forced to get up "early" at 8 and absolutely have to drink as much as humanly possible.

To each his own i suppose. I'm just telling you the reality of IU football in regards to its student following; right now, the only fun part about IU football games have been the tailgates, but late starts make it more appealing. Sounds like you have a deeper rooted issue with the students though haha.
