Guilty Pleasure thread

Southern Charm. Horrible show. I can hardly even believe how good it is

I really like random shit:

  • Driving Range
  • Watching golf
  • War movies
  • NA Indian history (I find them fascinating, across various tribes and geographies - from Apaches to Iroquois, though my favorites are plains tribes)
  • Three Stooges (yea, the legit version)
  • Seinfeld (I was too young to appreciate it when it came out, but find it has aged like fine wine)
  • Saisons
  • Fast food

The show Cobra Kai came up in the Centralized NGO thread and it is one of those shows for me that is a guilty pleasure. It is pretty cheesy, I mean it comes from the 80's Karate Kid franchise and had a bunch of the same aesthetic, but it sucked me in.

So a non political thread, what are some of your entertainment guilty pleasures?

Another streaming show for me is The Last Kingdom on Netflix, based on the Saxon Chronicles series. Quite a bit of it is character goes on quest, completes, needs to move to next quest...gets girl, loses girl, gets new girl type of stuff but it was just kind of guilty pleasure fun. It is a time period I find interesting and it loosely follows and involves some historically accurate people (if not always in the right timeframe or exactly how things went) so it is kind of fun for a history nerd like me.

Music, one of my guilty pleasures is Blink 182. Takes me back to a specific point in life. Lyrics are pretty juvenile in some cases or teenage angsty and the music itself is 3 chord pop punk, but I enjoy it.

So what about you? Let everyone know how bad your tastes are when no one is around to judge you.
I found Bosch, a detective show. Nothing world-changing, but still a damn good crime/ detective show with L.A. politics thrown in.

And Cheech & Chong.

I‘m sitting there chortling all the way through and I’ll get, “What’s so funny?” Just can’t be explained.

The Equalizer on CBS after 60 minutes.
What's so cool about the credits?

...

Roadhouse
Point Break (original)
How It's Made
Evan Williams (tell me a better $12 bourbon)
The Rum Diary (don't ask how many times I've read it b/c i've lost count)
Tiktok (f*ck off, you all are just living in denial)
Trolling people on Twitter during Live PD (bring it back)
YouTube rabbit holes leading to niche shit that you never knew existed

So many of these. I had COVID earlier this year and got stuck in my room for a week. I was going down all sorts of YouTube rabbit holes. Some lady asking her daughters if they could define words used in Appalachia. How did I get here and why am I now watching one of those daughters make her own soap?

Roadhouse sucks me in every time. Ashamed to admit I've probably watched it more than any other movie. Shawshank or Casino would be a close second.

Some movies I liked the first time but won't rewatch, like Forrest Gump and Schindler's List. Odd I know.

I'm now stuck on auto rebuilds, restorations, etc. I have no desire to do this I just love watching them do it.

Outside of YT, I enjoy Bitchin Rides on whatever the hell the name of 1104 is on Uverse.

Schindler's List is a rough subject matter. Great film but can see why someone would only want to put themselves through it once.

LMAO. I do too. Even the cheesy ones like gas monkey garage. Chasing classic cars is my favorite but I like almost all of them. When i was practicing law and had to wear a monkey suit it would drive my stoker nuts: She'd be telling me a story of how someone at work was out to get her and I'd be staring at the tv in a hugo boss suit mumbling: guy put together a pretty nice little rat rod.

Funny how you can be interested in things that are polar to your actual life

During the 80's the A Team was one of my shows. I found it on Peacock App when my daughter had downloaded it so I was excited. Then Peacock removed the show. Now I have found that Tubi has the A Team on there so I am happy again.
In the 90's the show Renegade with Lorenzo Lamas was one of my shows. It is not as well done as the A Team. It looks more cheesy now.

I love Saisons and I'll add Farmhouse Ales.

The Renegade was outstanding television. So was Baywatch. The chicks were obviously hot but the storylines made the show. Mitch could do ANYTHING. He chose to be a lifeguard. I loved how he'd take a sabbatical because he'd need to go save an architecture firm or something. The show was great

Ah the A team, worse shots than Star Wars stormtroopers.

As I recall Voldemort's actor was one of the shittiest Nazis in that movie. Talk about typecasting!

Did you ever watch a show called, "Forever Knight"? It was about a vampire who becomes a cop. I think it was based in Toronto. I really liked it.

Fast food may be the only one of those I would call a "guilty pleasure" (of which I also partake).

As for Native American history, have you been to the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in DC? I have to be in DC next week and hope to go. A friend of mine highly recommended I try to go, especially for the food experience. The Mitsitam Native Foods Cafe at the museum serves indigenous, Native cuisine of North and South America. From the website linked below:

Mitsitam Cafe

“Mitsitam” means “Let’s eat!” in the Native language of the Delaware and Piscataway peoples. The museum’s Mitsitam Native Foods Cafe enhances the museum experience by providing visitors the opportunity to enjoy the indigenous cuisines of the Americas and to explore the history of Native foods. The Cafe features Native foods found throughout the Western Hemisphere. Each of the five food stations—Contemporary Native; Mountains and Plains; Native Comfort; Oceans, Sea and Streams; and The Three Sisters—depict regional lifeways related to cooking techniques, ingredients, and flavors found in both traditional and contemporary dishes. Selections include authentic Native foods, such as traditional fry bread, as well as contemporary items with a Native American twist.

Love Native American stuff. That place looks awesome

I just finished watching episodes of "Mayday"... I love to watch about anything on airplanes. I recently watched several episodes of "Worlds Deadliest Journeys" ... those really make you stop and appreciate how easy we have it.

Is Miami Vice (TV show) streaming anywhere?
