GREAT NEWS!!!!!

Much ado about nothing...

It's my understanding the plane is already in country.

The Air Force will tear that thing down to the rivets and make certain it's both secure and functional...

My take is that this move is intended to be a slap face to Boeing who's failed to fufill their contract to provide new Air Force One over two administrations...

Maybe Boeing can get their shit together and do their damn job Before the Q plane is put out into service... Wouldn't That be a nice change of pace for that outfit...
Trump just helped broker a $96 billion Boeing purchase from the Qatari’s.

I’m sure their execs aren’t too cut up about AF1 delays.

Oh this is going to be a great new theme 'round here now. "There is reporting".......... You thinking of running for office in Ohi........ or anywhere? You have the CYA cover statement well rehearsed. This gonna be gold Jerry.
Do you not read or watch the news at all?

This is intended to provide Trump with a new flying palace that he'll use after leaving office. How much we will end up paying for it is anybody's guess.

Trumps not going on a world tour after his term is over... He'll probably be happy to still be able to get around a golf course and hang out at Mar-Lago...

I'd imagine he'll spend the bulk of his time overseeing the building of his library, while collaborating on a ghost written memoir.

That plane will end up being a walk through tourist attraction sitting somewhere near the his library... (That's "if" Boeing finally gets off their ass and delivers a new one, otherwise President Rubio will be forced to use it...).

You guys crack me up...

You think he is just going to retire and go play golf?
Heck no.
He enjoys the spotlight too much. He craves the crowd chanting his name.
The first two years after office I'd put the over / under of rallies he headlines at 10 and his favorite part is waving to the masses that will meet him at the airport as he steps off his billion dollar plane you just paid for.

And Rubio won't get it. It's already been declared that Trump gets this one when he leaves. Rubio either gets the new Boeing one or the one in service today.

Age will come to him quickly. 80 seems like one of those marker years where people age in dog years

There is nothing you would not do to defend Trump. Just like so many others on here. When it comes to Trump you are completely pliable.

Well Trump, after much careful consideration, has decided to go ahead and accept the plane!!!!!!! He will accept this gracious and very personal gift. I'm glad to see this all worked out and am looking forward to him posting pics
I dont care one way or the other my question is why does it take boeing 11 years to build a plane. That seems absurd.

Here's hoping a future executive can claw this back.
If we actually spend $1B and spend a 2 to 3 years on it to make it meet AF1 requirements, it should stay with the Air Force and serve as AF1 for future Presidents. Allowing it to be used by the former President after his term would be unacceptable. After end of life it should be transferred to the National Museum of the Air Force here in Dayton to be on display with all the other planes that served as AF1.

Of course.

But I don’t care how much we spend on it. Even if the US doesn’t spend a nickel upgrading it, Trump or his foundation can’t have it once he leaves office.

True. If it isn’t modified to meet AF1 requirements it’s useless and the DoD should sell it.

How do we go about preventing this from happening? I can't imagine Congress overriding a veto.

what it will end up being is a slap in the face to taxpayers who will fund over billion dollars converting a $400 million plane into Air Force One. Where is DOGE on this one?

The next President can stop it I’d imagine.
how much taxpayer money will have been wasted on it before 2028 arrives?

And then the taxpayer funded conversion will go with Trump to his library when he leaves...aka stealing.

It might be difficult for the next president to stop it given Trump will likely have it relocated prior to leaving office. It will end up being like the stolen documents case that took years to fight over. At least he can't hide the plane in Melania's underwear drawer.

I have no idea. It’s not in the budget now. They’d have to move funds from funded DoD projects to do it. They’d most likely have to divert people and funding for the current AF1 project too and that would further delay those two airplanes. Also AF1 is only a call sign for any plane which the President is flying in. If the President decides to waive all security and communication requirements and take it for a joyride, it’ll be AF1. My money is on him doing that for a domestic trip.

Works for me... Have another visit planned there sometime over the next two years (with my grandsons)... That's one of my favorite museums...

How is it possible to "further delay" those two planes Boeing is still screwing around with?!?

How long have they been working on them now? 8 years???

If I were Trump I'd put some serious pressure on those clowns (in terms of awarding future contracts elsewhere) to wrap that job up...

They should be embarrassed as an entire company (from the custodial crew to the CEO) but I'm sure they're not...

It’s possible if they take people working on that to work on modifying the Qatari plane. People with the security clearances and expertise to work on the highly classified systems of Presidential planes are a limited resource.

Yes, it is taking far too long to complete them and it could take even longer if they don’t carefully think this through.

it is always possible to further delay. Do you really think they can work on yet another plane without effecting the timeline of the planes they were already working on? I doubt it's easy to hire more people and get them clearances to do the work.

I'm not positive why it takes so long but I'm guessing these modifications are not minor and thus rather time consuming. Also would assume they double and triple check stuff because a failure on AF1 would likely be devastating to the company.

It would be a huge fight to take it back once ownership has been transferred to Trump. It would take legislation I think
It takes congressional approval to transfer military equipment to international partners. I think it’s also required for transferring domestically too, but I’m not 100 percent certain. I’ll look it up when I get some time.

HGTV should do a documentary to see if trump can make it more gaudy than qatar
What TV show was it that documented the construction of his golf course in Scotland? That show, The Apprentice, the birther stuff, and the Rick Reilly caddying article... are in the foundation of my hatred for the man. But I'd watch the hell out of a documentary of him overseeing the Qatar plane revamping. He is must see TV, especially in that setting.

Maybe PBS could get their funding back if they promised to do a Ken Burns series on it???!!!!

Are you talking about Trump Turnberry?

Maybe? I was thinking he built a completely new course in Scotland. Maybe they talked about Turnberry too?
Two minutes research reveals the facts.
Your op refers to a recent development north of Aberdeen on the northeast coast

Turnberry is on the sw coast and is long established. Stayed there a number of years ago during a legacy trip to Scotland.
