Got a little bit of "inside info." tonight

I don't put much faith in any rumor... but ..

I've always said that coaching at this level is not about x and o's, you prove you have them at the mid major level. Or like Crean prove you don't. It's about managing and motivating player egos and wading the politics of the administration. So, though I don't put any validity to your rumor, due to his inward personality, it's possible.

I don't see being a prick as an issue though, the losing is the real problem.. all your flaws show up when you lose and flaws are ignored when you win.
"all your flaws show up when you lose and flaws are ignored when you win"
Hence the Bob Knight era at IU.

I have a friend who has a son on this team. Green is a cancer and it shows. Jared Odle commented that there is a cancer or two on this team. I think the other one may be Anderson. Miller should dismiss Green from the team now. Play a walk on if you have to. I think the team would loosen up and play better.
You don't have to kick them off the team, just don't play them. They will leave on their own. Problem solved.

I imagine Brand's "discussion of the Zero Tolerance violation" request was simply to let him know, face to face, that his contract was being terminated. I imagine Knight knew that, too. This "insubordination" tag was conveniently added as simply more justification for the controversial decision that was going to be made, regardless of this request for "availability".
You might imagine that to be the case, but Knight’s refusal to meet with Brand made Brand’s job easy. And, I’m sure you’ll recall, there was precedent for all of this. Brand was prepared to fire Knight the previous May but chose not to after the two of them met face to face. Born from that meeting was Zero Tolerance, a protocol Knight publicly praised. Who knows if a September meeting would’ve produced a different outcome for IU and BK, but his refusal to be a part of such a meeting was, in effect, his resignation. So, the “convenience” was courtesy of Knight, not the invention of Brand.

It’s not over for Arizona and Kansas. They’ve been notified of the allegations of violations. They have to respond soon and then the NCAA will move to the next step in the process. Their responses could include self- imposed penalties which the NCAA can accept as sufficient or can reject them an impose more severe penalties. I don’t think either will get off the hook.
They will both get less than what we got for Sampson’s phone calls.

Who was it that actually said Bob was bigger than the university, Myles? I've been here since the beginning and don't recall hearing this statement made until after the fact, as justification for having fired him. Wouldn't there be Trustee Board of Directors's minutes that would validate some discussion regarding this particular "problem" prior to it being used in defense of his firing?

I don't recall anyone in an official capacity making that comment in public. It was a common refrain from rivals for years.

It's cool when people post like they can see the future. If you can see the future, you should try to make money by betting on horse races or something.

I remember Knight's introductory speech at Texas Tech. "This is the best I've felt in a red sweater in six years!" (in reference to Brand's administration). If Brand had cared for IU, he wouldn't have switched jobs so suddenly after making the call. Knight still cares. What Knight doesn't care about is seeing an outsider who doesn't appreciate our basketball heritage come in and f++k it up! We still deal with remnant attitudes from Brand's administration today. Today we sit in anger of what we've become as Knight is nearly done.

But your narrative seems to point the finger at Brand for insisting that Knight behave, which makes no sense. Knight could’ve and should’ve acted like an adult and he would’ve left IU on his own terms. He spun out of control and caused his own departure, which was sad and unfortunate, but also deserved.

That said, I’m glad he finally decided that enough was enough and chose to return to AH. It was a special time yesterday, especially for those of us who saw his entire career at IU.

I disagree with Archie being a good hire for a school with Indiana’s pedigree. Mid-Major coaches flame out to often for it to be a good hire. Shaka Smart was lauded as a great hire by the media, as well, and he will be looking for a new job soon. IU’s in a position (at least should be with a competent administration) to not have to gamble with mid-majors. Also, Greg Marshall, was a much better mid-major option than Archie. I agree with everything else.
Hey Knight was a young coach who can from Army he was mid-major who turn out to be pretty good right? LOL The guy who is coaching Rutgers came from a mid-major also I'm not to happy the way thing or going but at least one more year of Archie maybe he will turn it around i hope.

Knight had success from day one. You can clearly see archie is over his head but only if your willing to accept reality.

We’ll probably never know what it was about Myles Brand that Knight so despised, what pissed him off so much. With another IU President and/or athletic director, disaster may have been adverted and subsequent IU basketball viewed in better light.

I think we’ve always known. Brand asserted his authority and that was in conflict with Knight’s belief that he was accountable to no one, and certainly not to an outsider president whom he believed didn’t “get” IU athletics.
