Claim: $85 billion dollars of equipment was left in Afghanistan for the Taliban
Fact: DoD says $18.6 billion, total, was spent on equipment from 2005-2021. At most $7.1B was left, but much of that was rendered inoperable / unusable.
Claim: I filled up the petroleum reserve & now it’s virtually drained
Fact: reserves were lower when he left office than when he came in. Reserves are lower now but it is BY FAR the largest oil reserve in the world, not “virtually drained”.
Claim: Nobody before me got a dollar from China.
Fact: The US generated an “average of $12.3 billion in custom duties a year from 2007 to 2016”, according to the U.S. International Trade Commission DataWeb.
Claim: Sea levels will rise 1/8 of an inch over 300 years.
Fact: The US government’s National Ocean Service said on its website that “sea level along the U.S. coastline is projected to rise, on average, 10 - 12 inches (0.25 - 0.30 meters) in the next 30 years (2020 - 2050), which will be as much as the rise measured over the last 100 years (1920 - 2020).”
Claim: China has no drug problem, since they are so tough on drug crime.
Fact: The Chinese government reports that “there were 1.49 million registered drug users nationwide” as of the end of 2021; in the past, officials in China have acknowledged that the number of registered drug users are a significant undercount of actual drug use there.
Claim: Obama took a lot of classified records with him
Fact: This is an outright lie.
Claim: Gas was $1.87 when I left office, and now it’s 5, 6, 7, and 8 dollars
Fact: On Jan 20, 2021, the average price was $2.39. Today it is $3.75.
Claim: I made countries like Guatemala & Honduras take back gang members and thugs, when Obama wouldn’t try to send them back.
Fact: For the 2016 fiscal year, Obama’s last full fiscal year in office, ICE reported Guatemala and Honduras ranked second and third, behind only Mexico, in terms of the country of citizenship of people being removed from the US.
Claim: A missile, probably fired by Russia, landed 50 miles inside Poland.
Fact: A missile landed 4 miles inside Poland, and before Trump’s speech there were reports about it likely coming from Ukraine’s anti-aircraft missile defenses
Claim: I built a great, beautiful wall
Fact: A little over half of an easily-scaled fence was built, over budget, in fact funded by criminal activity
Claim: I sent the National Guard to clean up Minneapolis
Fact: Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, not Trump, was the one who deployed the Minnesota National Guard amid unrest in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. Walz, who served in the Army National Guard for more than two decades, first activated the Guard more than seven hours before Trump publicly threatened to deploy the Guard himself.
Claim: Biden went to Idaho and said that he was glad to be in Florida.
Fact. Allegation is made up.
Claim: 10 million illegals are pouring in every year.
Fact: Customs and Border protection estimates 4.3 M people tried to enter in the last 2 years, and >70% were quickly expelled
Claim: A turkey will cost you 3-4x as much this Thanksgiving.
Fact: Not a 300% or 400% increase, but a 7% increase, according to the USDA. Only off by a factor of 50!
Claim: I gave you decades without a war.
Fact: Four years isn’t a decade, and he presided over wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, while authorizing airstrikes (mostly drones) in Somalia, Yemen, Libya, Pakistan, and Iraq.
Claim: I decimated ISIS in less than 3 weeks
Fact: there was progression against ISIS, not over 3 weeks but more like 3 years, following up on major progress against the Caliphate in 2015 & 2016 under Obama.
Claim: we had no terrorist attacks in my administration.
Fact: There were several; Florida military base in 2019, NYC in 2017, to name two.
Claim: I rebuilt the military and scrapped old bombers.
Fact: Renovated B52s are in use today
Claim: Border towns all love me
Fact: Trump lost border states in both of his previous races – California and New Mexico in both 2016 and 2020, Arizona in 2020 – and also lost numerous border communities in Texas and elsewhere both times.
