This is a good listen from the WV side on DeVries leaving. Had really good things to say about him and called him and elite coach and said he is a great fit at IU. Very interesting listening to their thoughts on the IU job as well.

Yeah, I saw that podcast. All 3 were quite even-handed and knowledgeable in their assessments of CDD and of the IU job in general. Worthwhile viewing IMO.

Someone posted this in another thread, maybe on the premie?

Either way, it is a really good podcast. These guys were really impressed with CDV.

I recommend any and all to listen to it.

lots of great takes and info.

Every day I start to feel more and more excited about DeVries.

Now…that will ratchet up quite a bit as he adds staff and players.

A very mild concern, at this point, would be none of his assistants, or former players, have clamored to follow him yet, outside Tucker, obviously. But I’m sure that concern will wash away soon when he starts to name his staff and get the roster going.

credit to them as they were very objective about the situation, and not fanning silly claims like he was holding out Tucker for the IU job. Good to hear their comments regarding DD as a good/great bball coach. Anxious to see good play on the floor. I think as IU fans we've been snake bitten with our most recent coaching hires since RMK that it's easy to assume it's going to be sub par. Now we can move on to seeing the staff and roster he pulls together and hope it translates to an NCAA tourney bid next fall with some good basketball thrown in along the way.

An IndyStar article was posted somewhere yesterday where CDD says everything is aligned, and things will happen when the time is right. Meaning I think, some of his assistants are still in the Sweet16. He has said they will only announce the assistants when they are all onboard. The WV podcast of 3 Men, one is their play by play guy and spent a lot of one on one time with him. CDD was already looking at potential portal players before the season was over, as were every other coach in the country.

No concerns for me ... he is working, they are working in the background ... I like that the slate is clean for roster and staff.

I'm sure...its just unsettling until it all happens.

For what its worth...the context for CDD looking for portal guys, was that he was doing so for WVU...not a new job. With the point being he didn't know he was leaving WVU, at the time... according to the guys on that podcast.

Heard mentioned yesterday that they are going to hold off public announcement of staff until all are on board. This may apply to some.of.the players also, as they see what the staff looks like.

Yeah...makes sense. Per Tammany's post in another thread...it really is very early on in all this. Not many commits yet, in any form, other than some Head Coaches being named.

16 teams still playing in NCAAs, some more in NIT and other tourneys...all the "meetings" that go on Final Four weekend... lots of things need to unfold yet, for the dominoes to really start to fall.

Obviously he has to be recruiting around the clock, but I would think the biggest advantage to having him locked up early is in selecting a staff. What, you now have 10 or so new coaches around the country, and they're all going to be trying to get the best assistants they can. I wouldn't want to be trying to assemble the best staff and have 20-30 other guys already inking deals to be elsewhere.

Oh I hope CDD can identify talent and character. He's got a lot of work to do because the cupboard is bare.
