Brought to mind the tragic Evansville hoops team crash of 1977. A couple years earlier, I lived in the apartment beneath the Flight Attendant who was lost, a lovely girl named Pam Smith.
She was 21, a Linda Ronstadt look-alike...very sweet, unpretentious girl....
Incredibly heartbreaking .
Pilot error.

Isn’t this like the 4th or 5th plane incident in the past couple of weeks? There has been a rash of them, some deadly. It all coincides with the Pope opening the doors…..shit’s getting real. First IU with 11 wins in football. Then the drones. Now the planes.

In a scenario like that where a mishap means dozens, if not hundreds, of people dead, I’d rather they be a little to cautious than not cautious enough.

I never said they shouldn’t be cautious. An error was made and they need to investigate what happened and take corrective action. I’m sure this will happen the FAA is great.

I remember that. Very tragic. We have family in Evansville so as a kid it hit home.

Yes they do, I remember the Purple Aces’ DC 3 that crashed on takeoff in a heavy rain.

The aircraft had gust locks on the rudder and one of ailerons that the flight crew failed to have removed before they took off. That, combined with an overloaded baggage compartment, is what caused the plane to crash.

It got airborne, but the crew realized immediately they had very limited control. They tried to circle back around to land — but with the overweighted compartment, no rudder, and only one working aileron, they were unable to get all the way back.
