Gofundme for Mo

Yeah I hear ya. It's hard to give up playing tho. Even for $50k in Ukraine. Sucks. In his defense I trust he never expected this to happen. He was just living his life how he wanted to live it; likely knowing there's always opportunities in the game back home when his step is gone

I imagine his cost of living can't be more than $500 per month. Not terrible on 50k.

In 1968, a group of students from the college where my dad taught were caught in Czechoslovakia when the Russkies invaded. Scary stuff. They eventually got out OK, and learned about the Iron Curtain in real time.

Most came back with a new view about US involvement in South Vietnam.

Years later, in 1975, @Rockport Zebra wound up in the Army, guarding the German/Czech border - watching Russian officers control Czech soldiers. Me and Mom visited in December 77, and asked about the bullseye target on the parade ground. They said "if nuclear war breaks out, our life expectancy is 20 seconds - we don't want them to miss."

In 1980, I voted for Reagan.

It’s kind of funny that people from all over are helping him out, after seeing his interview on Fox News. ( majority are sending Zelle directly). And then this is the reaction some here have.

Yeah and you're doing what you love. That stuff is kind of tricky though. You're basically resigned to having to stay in the game when you finally quit because you're losing a lot of years that you could be working and gaining experience and you aren't really socking money away. I did that for a while in the league that predated MLS here. Some of the older guys really were set back in life by playing too long. Then they "retired" broke. You get into your 30s it can become an issue. I know tons of guys that regret it.

The Ukrainian Super League seems pretty borderline. Here's a 2015 article about Cameron Rundles:

Sounds like they make about $50K. Not a lot.

But, a guy like Mo Creek put himself in that position. If that's his best basketball hope at his age it would seem like maybe doing something else might have been in order. If you're so intent on playing a kids game well into adulthood that you need to play in such a place, well that's sort of on you. I won't fault anyone for sending money to the guy, but no way I would do that.

But, I'm a bit of an asshole.
But Hunter Biden was paid $80k/month to share his petroleum industry expertise by the grateful Ukrainians..
Something is just wrong over there.

You really need to consider a therapist and perhaps some prescriptions. All you have done is reinforce what I said and think of you. I can't even imagine having to endure you an hr a day for a whole yr. Great , Are You sending money to a ukranian underground RR to get black basketball players out? Do you care about families that are losing everything over there ? Maybe your money could be better spent. He was a good player, OK ...........did you adopt him and if you did you sure as hell should have given him better advice. So I see he was making 50k a yr? Not bad for a lot of people . It just makes no sense. You should hire an action movie group with a helicopter and bust him out. Again I have nothing against him and hope he gets out but its a ridiculous situation. You want to do something email Tom Crean
By the way, go to my Facebook page and read pictures and a note a student from 20 years ago left me today. It happens quite often. It warms my heart. It makes it easier to ignore people like you .

You truly have issues.
Me? I'm not the emotional one all caught up in things . I'm not sending money to a coddled athlete getting paid to play basketball in a foreign country when sh*t was hitting the fan. I wouldnt have been there to begin with. Sorry but if his skills couldn't result in better pay what are you doing? If he was making 50k in Logansport and eeking out a career fine. Why would anyone? I am highly doubtful that black Mo Creek was just entranced by the culture of the Ukraine . I hope he gets out I bear him no ill will but Go fund me is a scam from the start and you never answered when the house down the road of some less fortunate people you never knew burned to the ground or someone lit their barn on fire would you help them? In person? Send money or get them some clothes let them stay at your house? Those are the kind of people that truly need help.

Still waiting on yours.
So how much did you send? How much did you send for people that will be having a hard time finding food ? People that their actual homes get destroyed and living in their streets . You want pics of people and their cats and dogs they wont leave behind? Send them so GoFund money to feed them. You are transparent it isnt funny. You are worried about a basketball player that made a bad decision and his real home is safe. He needs to make a run for the border. Sounds like a Taco Bell commercial!

No argument there. I'm just more or less saying that on the hierarchy of people who might deserve my money, I'd not put Mo high on my list. I won't fault anyone for feeling otherwise.

I think that changes a little when someone is in a life or death situation, no matter how they got there. But everyone gets to decide how to use their money and what is a worthwhile cause.

Mo hasn’t left for one reason. The Organization he plays for owes him money. If he leaves he will never get paid.

I have no idea if it's true or not, but I've seen references to him supporting extended family. If true, that 50K may not go far.

Why is that funny? I am sure there are millions who watched him on Fox and did not donate. Just like some read it here and did not donate. Each person can decide for themselves what charity to donate.

Obviously they can. One would think if one were not interested one would just skip the thread. But nope, not the WC. It devolves into insulting the poster and questioning how much the person actually needs money and their life decisions. It was obviously posted here because of his IU connections.

https://www.gofundme.com/f/bring-home-maurice-mo-creek-buddy?qid=0735d2f673655727139086984bdac902 If anyone is interested. Mo is in a car leaving Ukraine now. A buddy started a gofundme to help with expenses. He was in the middle of his season, so obviously he lost his job too.
Well, I would, but gofundme.com can sieze the funds and not distribute them if they don't like your politics.

So, no, I won't be giving.

As was discussed, it's his choice to play a kid's game. He got paid for it. I have no idea how much he's making, but I'm sure there are endorsements in addition to his salary. If he wasn't making a living, he wouldn't have been playing.

I'm glad he got out safely.
