Here's one battle I hope he wins.

NB: I'd rather have year-round standard time than year-round DST, but either one would be a vast improvement over the nonsense we deal with now.

I tried that on my mortgage company once. Didn’t fly.
Just another example of Money Man keeping the little guy in chains.

I'm retired though, so I don't care what time it is. But if I had my say I'd like to do away with the time changes. Keep it at whatever time makes the daylight last longer so I don't need to use a flashlight to cook on the grill. I don't care if it's dark in the morning.

I’d be interested in hearing Trump supporters’ defense of this absolutely senseless Luddite position on port automation.

Well, we have some preaching for basic standard income, with no input for society from those who are getting paid. Go try and find someone to perform any task in the UAE. You can't because they all get paid to do nothing. But the oil will eventually run out.
I recall a story from Tokyo a few years ago. An American, being polite reached down to pick up some trash that someone had left on the ground. His Japanese escort scolded him to leave it be. So he asked why, I can simply pick it up. The answer, we have people who picking that up is their job. If we do it ourselves, then they have no job and will unfulfilled and unemployed.
Automation is great, but at some point we have to have activities for people so they can contribute.
Having said that, the longshoremen are being totally unreasonable and bringing automation upon themselves. "OHHHH I'm skilled, I drive a fork lift".... I was doing that when I was 9 years old, get over yourself.

I think you hit why this has never passed. America is in 3 camps, keep as is, move to Standard, move to DST. Now as is may be the smallest of the three, but combined with either of the other two it is a clear majority.

Winners was absolutely determined it had to be DST. Jeff Sagarin is absolutely convinced it has to be Standard. So how can a politician square that circle?
Like you, Standard is my preference but I would accept DST and deal with it being dark at 4:30 in December. Sagarin's point has been that Indiana is on the far western edge of Eastern time, so by sun position we are practically 2 hours off in DST.

So pass a bill that at noon on Feb 1, Donald Trump will flip a coin and on heads we all go DST, tails Standard. That gives Congress political cover

Isn't that why people hated on unions, "I cannot clean up that spill, the union custodian must come and do it"?

I'm probably the way I am for the same reason as Sagarin. Today, "high noon" (measured as the midpoint between sunrise and sunset) was at 12:45. I don't want it to permanently be at 1:45.

Compromise: permanent DST but Indiana switches to Central time zone.

My dad claimed it was why he didn't like unions. Said he saw someone spill something where he was making a delivery, and refused to clean up his own mess, because it was someone else's job to do so. The problem as my dad saw it was that production on the line had to come to a halt while someone went to find this person whose job it was, and so the guy who made the mess basically got a free break to just sit around and wait.

No idea how true it was, it was just a story he told us. Never occurred to me how weird it was for a truck driver to be anti-union.

Just don’t change the clock from here on out.

Was just gonna post that the difference between Indiana and Illinois is vast. In Chicago I like my 830 sunsets in the heart of summer whereas 930 sunsets 100 miles to the east is a bit excessive.

My late Father-in-law worked for Harvester and would tell similar stories. He was staunchly pro-union, while simultaneously telling stories laced with disgust on how inefficient they made things. His own brother got busted/fired for theft but the union got him back in, somehow. Maybe it's how all lawyers suck, unless it's your lawyer.

Your dad sounds like a smart man! What happened to you?
