Way to incite the psycho! HERE WE GO! Dammit. vbgYou dumbass New England wasn't even playing.
Nova has had guards down there too. Guard play was UNC's weakness this year. It's showing up.
btw I heard Ovaltine and C-$ blow each other.
Like Alford.Gotta be stoked for Archidiacano. Kid grew up huge Villanova fan. Imagine if one of us won a national championship for IU. That's how this kid's feeling right now.
Are there any kids really growing up as huge IU basketball fans? Lost generation.

I was off by a point. SOOOOOOOOOOO pissed. How could I miss like that?
Where do you people come from...No.
Literally zero.
That's because you use your teeth. The Carmel Cop said soIt hurts, doesn't it?
My kids will have no memories of IU basketball like I did. No expectations to win every game like I had. No acceptance that their team was beaten by a better team (read: not out coached) in nearly every loss, like I had. *sigh*No.
Literally zero.
The land of valued possessions, hard nosed defense, playing under control AT ALL TIMES, player accountability, coaches that actually EXCEED expectations rather than creating a narrative of built in excuses for their sure-to-fall-short failures. A land where it was much, much easier to accept a petulant SOB coaching legend because he was great vs a fidgety weirdo legend in his own mind, who will never be great. That place. Dude, you know this. You're not a CBL. I know you want so badly to believe in TTT, but he's never gonna be the right guy. He's just not. Give up scolding the rest of us.Where do you people come from...

So Nova's Jay Wright, who generally is not considered a master tactician from what I gather, figured out that maybe the best approach to counter UNC's physical talent and penchant to push the pace was to slow it down, value possessions and frustrate UNC by dictating pace. While our coach determined his best bet was to push the pace, which most "experts" felt was playing to their strength. Who woulda thunk it? Oh, that's right: EVERYONE! Nice job Coach.
BTW, shouldn't some intrepid reporter or media type try and pin Fred down on what he defines as a "deep tournament run"? Love to get that in print.

Well we could use the excuse that a bad UNC shooting team shot unexpectedly well against us, but given they were 7-9 from 3 in the first half last night and 11-17 overall, that doesn't mean much.
What's so noticeable about Nova is that they're playing the same undersized lineup as IU (1 post, 1 bigger wing, 3 guards), but they actually defend as a team in a way that doesn't make that a detriment. They have active hands, they extend the pressure, they obstruct passing lanes, and actually create turnovers. And it's not like Wright just threw that in as their gameplan - that's their defensive mentality. It's amazing how not just competent and adequate defense, but aggressive defense can actually help you win games when you can't just out-gun the opponent.
Yeah ND tried to do it, but their defense is dogshit. If ND/VU can try it, no reason we can't. Oh wait, we have a non-player as our HC who has to watch tape to feel the flow of a game. The thing is, it's really not.

Nevermind.

Absolutely. The culture part is key. Even beyond the coach enforcing it, there has to accountability between the players and a vocal leader who will enforce that. People forget that. The Bulls, as good as they were in all facets, were relentless on defense and that began and ended with one guy. He'd beat your a$$ over it if you weren't cutting it on D.You can't "try to play good D", imo. It generally has to be a culture within the program, where you have to play good D or you don't play. I think good D is infectious and I think if you have a player who is a leader and committed to D, it will rub off. Why did our D improve during the season? I do think alot of it had to do with JBJ going down. Replacing an awful defender with a couple who were pretty good I think tipped the scales and made everyone play better D. I think if TW played less, we'd have seen another jump. But my point is, it has to come from the Coach and be taught, preached and insisted upon. Even then, some teams won't get to an elite level, but they will always be good.
But my comment about it not being "amazing" is that good D has always been a winning formula. I remember my Uncle when I was enthralled with an AFC's team offense in the 80s, and convinced they'd blow out the Redskins, telling me: they may not be flashy, but defense wins championships. Of course, then as now, he was right. Offense can be undone by an off-night, turnovers, etc... but a good tough D almost always gives you a chance and keeps you in the game. It's generally a staple of any elite program or franchise. Doesn't have to be elite, but needs to be good and counted upon.
