Gaetz withdraws from AG consideration

The difference in my mind is this:

You follow the rules in football only so far as it helps you win the game.

In government, though, following the rules is it's own reward, it has it's own value, because it helps maintain and create a stabler society, less corruption, etc. That's what a Constitutionalist believes, I think. They believe "law" is not just poltiics all the way down, that it is something different and I think it is what I just laid out--a deeper pragmatic view and valuation of a particular society's history and underpinnings of legitimacy (if you lose the latter by not paying enough attention to the former, you create a high risk of revolution and civil unrest).

And as it applies to morality, there is no "winning" or "losing" in comparison to others. Plus, you become what you do; if you do immoral things, even if justified by what you consider a moral end, you make yourself into a type of person that I made my mind up, long ago, I did not want to b
So if your Party is losing election because the justice system locks up people for speaking up at school board meeting or tells social media to censor you on their platform - or else - you don't think there's a loser and a winner in that situation?

Was Abraham Lincoln a Constitutionalist?

More concise Brad. One is a f$cking football analogy and the other is the Constitution.

season 7 yes GIF

Drain the swamp! If the lifelong politician reaction and level of vitriol is a guage for strength of pick, Gaetz will be a rock star!
So you you know nothing about Gaetzs background. How long has he been in government? What did his dad do?

Who doesn't give someone money because "being awesome" or "just because" or "being my friend "?

Seems totally legit.
I was talking to my son one Friday night when he was a freshman at Purdue. It was very early in the school year and he was bored. He mentioned that some guys down the hall in his dorm were having a party and charging $7 to get in (they had beer/liquor). I Venmo'd him $7 with the legend "Dorm."

He went to the party for a while then decided to leave because it was getting crowded. He's a smart kid, as the party got busted shortly after he left.

Were these all to young girls?

Those round dollar amounts like $400 or $500 sure look like hourly rates . . .

This should be really easy to figure out, yet, I have zero confidence in people in charge actually following those easy steps.

There are valid reasons to debate whether the ethics report should be released to the public at large. However, I fail to see any valid reason that the Senate Judicial Committee should not have access to that report. If that Committee passes him to the Senate for a vote, all Senators should get the report.

I have not followed this. Does he have an excuse? In his 30s at bars in tbor city and he thought they were over 21? Fake id. One time drunk. Duped. What’s he say
Just to clarify - late 30s and sitting member of Congress. IMHO this all disqualifies him from being AG even if they were over 18 (or over 21). Would you be willing to give someone like Gaetz the highest level of security clearance?

And yes, the purported defense was that he did not know they were under 18.

Well he could be telling the truth. Who knows. He was single. If they were over 21 in his mind. Met them at bars. Whatever. His face is far more concerning to me. No one of sound mind would do that. That alone is disqualifying

Is the House Ethics Committee still investigating him for sex with a minor and drug use?

I guess being investigated isn't technically disqualifying, but come on.
Well, an adjudicated rapist will be in the White House again, so MG would be among people of a similar ilk.

Regardless of their ages, if these “payments” are proven to be made to sex workers, is that not solicitation of prostitution? I’m going to assume that would be illegal in Florida.

Not sure.
They have testimony for multiple girls who were over 18 corroborating the account of the underage girl. There are multiple accounts and payment records of sex and drug parties with 18-20 years old girls paid for sex at a time when he was in his mid-30's.

It's the new MAGA look. His face is now very similar to several other high-profile MAGA-heads. I think he wanted to look more like Laura Loomer

I think this is an important point. If he’s heading up dept of transportation. Maybe eh. But he’ll be the nation’s top prosecutor. That’s a bad look

He’s just a god awful pick on so many levels
I still think he was picked for one of two reasons (or both):

(1) he owed Gaetz for some reason

or/and

(2) it's a test to see who in the Senate are most loyal to Trump.

On (2), it will be interesting to see who leads the NFW charge in the Senate and how many jump on board. Once there are enough that confirmation clearly is not going to happen, I wonder if it will (a) open the floodgates to more piling on, or (b) cause the others to be relieved that they did not have to vote no. "Mr. President, I was ready to confirm Gaetz but these other assholes aren't as loyal as I am." It's already alarming and shocking how many in the Senate appear to be brushing off the allegations as no big deal or merely a young guy sowing his wild oats. Flies in the face of self-proclaimed Christians trying to stop the evils of sex trafficking, liberal debauchery, etc.
