Gaetz for AG

The Gaetz is complete nonsense. Everyone has known this stuff for years. Was fully investigated by the Feds and they got nothing. He will be confirmed.
LOL at "they got nothing."

DOJ has to look at scienter and BoP in a criminal case. Has nothing to do with the underlying events.

It’s like he went into the plastic surgeon and said, “Can you make my eyebrows look like I’m always interested when people speak to me?”
Maybe he's a big Trekkie?

Uh - he conveniently resigned right before a reportedly damaging Ethics Committee report was to be released. And Senators want the House Ethics Committee subpoenaed before voting to confirm.

What’s truly wild, though probably not surprising, is that there are people who believed a hair-brained conspiracy about a child trafficking ring in the basement of a place that has no basement who also shrug at Gaetz’s credible accusations of child trafficking and underage sex. And they’re cheering him on to get confirmed for AG because MAGA.

Talk about having no moral compass or backbone. Anyone supporting Gaetz to take over the department currently investigating him for child trafficking and under age sex are horrible people.

Devil's advocate: Why?

Clinton was a good President (just assume that). He was a slimeball in his personal life.

Do one's sexual proclivities affect their ability to do a job (outside an addiction that undermines work ethic, obviously)? Does one's use of cocaine in the past automatically disqualify one from public office? Why? I'm guessing a lot of people in power that lived through the 80s, for example, did cocaine. Why does that disqualify?

Added consideration: we just elected a man with Trump's background and character. How is Gaetz's different or worse in relation to either societal norms or his particular qualifications for the office and its responsibilities?
You can't be serious.

Sure. A guy who wouldn't be able to pass an FBI background check is a perfect appointee for the country's chief law enforcement officer.

Well then, Gaetz can be president, if he can get enough votes.

To be Attorney General, recent history ought to show ability to understand both decent behavior and also lawful behavior. If he's going to be judging others to direct actions by his department.

Also, while I said 'allegations' I am not accusing Clinton of anything other than being a common serial philanderer. The Lewinski affair was inappropriate, yet the Democrats rounded on Monica like a ravenous pack of wolves - but not on Bill.

In the final analysis it wasn't the Dems who "rounded on Monica like a ravenous pack of wolves" it was Linda Tripp who pretended to be her friend and secretly taped phone calls about her affair with Clinton in what Tripp called a patriotic act.

As Monica says about Tripp in this Wiki account concerning Tripp, "I hate Linda Tripp".

You will see. The confirmation hearing will be fun.
I want to see a supporting link for this claim:

This was all happening while the FBI was probing Matt Gaetz for s*x trafficking. Of course charges were never filed. And he was CLEARED of all wrongdoing.

I'll wait.

Ol' Markwayne is now claiming he and Matt Gaetz have had 'differences of opinions.' Interesting way to say you maybe aren't cool with child sex trafficking, but hey who is he to judge?

It's wild that a lot of Republicans are that blindly loyal to whatever Trump says and does. Before this AG appointment, EVERYONE was ready to toss Matt Gaetz to the curb (or prison). If credible accusations of child sex trafficking and bragging about sleeping with underage girls isn't where you take a moral stand, where is that line?

I see your boy Robinson lost.
Yes, bigly. The Dems put a lot of money into a smear campaign. And Robinson was a political novice and not backed very well by Republicans. Being black in NC is still a liability in NC when it comes to state offices.

Matt Gaetz is a Vile Sex Pest and Any Senator Who Votes For Him Owns That

Crush Some Viagra And Pour The Red Bull In Your Veins

I realize that we are occasionally given to hyperbole about the untoward nature of politicians, but let me be clear: Matt Gaetz is a sex trafficking drug addicted piece of shit. He is abhorrent. His eyes are permanently rimmed with the red rings of chemical boosters. In person, he smells like overexposed Axe Body Spray and stale Astroglide. The fact that he boasted on the floor to multiple colleagues in the House of Representatives of his methods of crushing Viagra and high test Red Bull to maintain his erection through his orgiastic evenings is perhaps the least offensive of his many crimes against womanhood and Christian faith. The man has less principles than your average fentanyl addicted hobo. He likes them underage and he’s not ashamed about it. Matt Gaetz isn’t just your average extreme Florida MAGA Man, he’s a hypocritical ass with the worst Botox money can buy, pursuing an ever-thinner nose and higher cheekbones at every opportunity like a Real Housewife gone mad for fillers. Every Republican in Washington has an opinion about Matt Gaetz, and 99 percent of those opinions are “Keep Matt Gaetz away from my wife/daughter/friend and anyone I care about.” He is a walking genital, warts included as a bonus. If I was merely attempting to count the number of women I know who have had bad experiences with Matt Gaetz, I would run out of fingers and toes. If you vote for him to be the Attorney General of the United States, you don’t just need your head examined, you need to be committed to a mental institution. The man is absolutely vile. There are pools of vomit with more to offer the earth than this STD-riddled testament to the failure of fallen masculinity.
Let’s just deal with the facts. Did Matt Gaetz transport an underage woman across state lines with the stated intent of her having sex with him and his friends? Yes. Did he later claim to Tucker Carlson that this woman did not exist? Yes. Does this conflict with the fact that one of his closest friends was convicted of having sex with this underage woman for pay? Yes. Are Gaetz and his orgy friends attempting to destroy the records — images, videos, etc. — from this sex party to protect his political future? Yes. Does this matter to Republicans? Who can say? Donald J. Trump has the best judgment in politics, of course he would never name a sex trafficking drug addled lying philandering piece of shit to be the Attorney General of the United States simply to avoid investigation. Or would he?
Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-Fla.) resignation from Congress came two days before the House Ethics Committee was set to vote on releasing a “highly damaging” report outlining its investigation into the Republican, according to multiple sources familiar with the probe.
The committee planned to vote Friday on releasing the report. Ethics loses its jurisdiction over Gaetz when he leaves Congress.
The secretive panel has been investigating Gaetz on and off since 2021. President-elect Donald Trump announced that he would nominate Gaetz to be attorney general Wednesday.
Here’s the real deal: Matt Gaetz is the line for how we assess the Republican Party. If they are truly a cult of personality, beholden to Donald Trump in ways that we could not even imagine for a party that rejects cults and idol worship, they will approve this choice. But if they have a degree of independence, any kind of free thought, mindful of the fact that a presidency is four years but your career is forever, they will reject this choice so emphatically that it sends a very simple, straightforward message: you can be an absolute dirtbag wannabe pimp pounding dick pills and caffeine while you film your “girlfriend” twerking on the gram, or you can be a Republican. The choice is yours.

Here's the thing, if it's true

He hung out at a party with BLOW and NAKED HOOKERS (or to be nicer, strippers) walking around. And regardless of whether he had sex with the stripper, he's already disqualified! And especially if he had sex with the stripper even if she's an adult.

I don't know any decent men of integrity who don't just leave that kind of party, unless maybe they're on their 21st birthday at their frat house. Anybody in their mid 30s with a professional job, leaves. Gaetz and Bill Clinton maybe don't. It doesn't sound like a teen party to me, sounds like an adult party according to those claiming nobody was underage. But it was a slimy party (or parties) with hookers and blow, if it's true.

I appreciate the good Dads in the thread. But none of them, after hearing their 18 year old ('officially' not underage) daughter was the naked stripper or hooker at a party with adult men and blow, says "Wow, good thing it wasn't four months ago when she was only 17, or I'd be pissed." (Is it slimier the more under say, 21, they are, yeah, and at that age if true, very yeah. But there are laws that states set if non commercial and consensual. Which if true this isn't anyway so it's already disqualifying.)

And apparently there is no baseline anymore. In politics.

Gaetz denials are so hollow. He did the stuff. Only maybe he didn't have sex with the underage stripper others say was 18. He's still disqualified.
,
As reprehensible as his acts may have been, it's not all that outrageous from what goes on in DC.

Whatever happened to the Dem cries of staying out of everyone's personal life?

I oppose Gaetz, but not because of bad boy sexual behavior (I haven't heard that he did anyting against anyone ele's will). I oppose him because he acts like a child - an immature child, at that - and is a pita to the Republican Party and had to be the center of attention during the Speaker votes. I don't question his intellect, but how he'll use it.

That's a new wrinkle, at least to me. If there were a confirmation hearing I would hope that some of them come forward with descriptions of his creepy behavior. They might not want to, since they will be vilified by MAGA loyalists, but it would be good theater.

I would venture to say that most everyone on this board wouldn’t be in their current jobs with 3 DUIs. In Indiana, you might be permanently disbarred.
If you're a lawyer in Indiana, your DUI charges go away.

Remember the drunk lawyer that wrecked his car going the wrong way on an interstate ramp? It made big news - probably mid-90s. That charge went away.

And I personally know of a couple cases in Howard County alone where a lawyer was stopped and either blew drunk or refused to take a sobriety case. Both just went away.

Let's not get all high and mighty.

In his defense, didn't he just this week question the Rubio pick of SoS?
For those concerned about global peace, his three worst picks by far are Rubio, Waltz, and Stefanik. 3 Neocons. If I was a Trump voter they would be complaint A, B, C. I thought we were getting away from the Bolton types?

Good one! You're a hoot, hoot!

Many years ago in phoning the C-Span morning caller line I mentioned the name of a conservative opinion columnist. Later that day she sent me an email and mentioned getting "a hoot" out of my call.

Soon after "Hoot" became my self my proclaimed handle on The Cooler.

You should check out the Indiana lawyer discipline page. It’s a lot of lawyers getting suspended for DUIs. There’s no magic get out of jail card as you imagine.

I know there are a helluva lot of DUI chages that just go away.

I don't think there's a get out of jail card, but I know favors are done - and so do you.

Murt and I were friends with a lawyer who had his license suspended for 6 months for his second DUI. I’m not familiar with a bunch of DUIs just going away. And anyone who gets 3 has a serious problem with alcohol.

Agreed. I'm just saying if I personally know of some, it's happening all over.

I know a lawyer in Indy who knew the guy who wrecked on the interstate ramp going the wrong way. They had him dead to rights and it just went away. My friend said at the time he'd get off and I said he was crazy. My friend was right.

His statement was, "If you're a lawyer in Indiana, your DUI charges go away." There was no qualifier, like some go away or most go away or anything. Like he often does, he pulled it out of his bunghole, and as usual, he moved the goal posts in his reply to you.
