Gaetz for AG

I get it, but people are nominated for positions in which they have little experience all the time in government.

At least Gaetz has experience with the judiciary. I'm not advocating for him, but he's as qualified by DC standards.
It’s pathetic

Was Bobby Kennedy qualified to be AG? The AG is essentially a figurehead. He's not trying cases. Gaetz will be there to flush out the rats and ensure justice is administered.
Bobby Kennedy had served in various counsel capacities in the US Senate for a decade before he became AG.

In fact, some are surprised to learn that he was co-counsel for a time for Sen. Joseph McCarthy's infamous committee -- appointed by McCarthy himself.

He wasn't picked for his qualifications.

Tulsi as DNI is also a clown pick.

I agree -- but it's nowhere near as bad as this one. I know Trump felt indebted to Tulsi Gabbard for her support and I'm not at all surprised that he rewarded her with a cabinet pick. But I think she's more cut out for VA or something like that.

Generally speaking, I don't have any issue with nominating people who don't come from within the culture of the institution they're being chosen to lead. This happens in the private sector a lot and I think there are benefits to it -- especially if you're seeking to change that culture.

Whatever one thinks of the Gabbard and Hegseth picks, I don't think he intended them to be grenades. But I definitely think he intended this one to be a grenade.

Let me guess, you're in favor of Trump attempting an end-run around the Senate to get this asshole at Justice? Of course you are.

And I'm sure that will just do wonders for his ability to get any legislation passed, despite the trifecta. He's already got a razor-thin margin in the House -- and a caucus there that is anything but united.

And, for what exactly? What could possibly be the benefit -- even if it's the benefit to Trump rather than, ya know, the country -- of having a clown like Matt Gaetz as Attorney General?
Dbm would be good with anointing Trump King of the USA. There's absolutely nothing Trump says or does which he won't defend or support.

Name another of the big 4 cabinet posts in history that had someone with zero actual experience?

As crazed said, this is the worst nomination in US history... By a mile. The clown show has commenced

Pete Buteigeig, for one.

Please tell me you're not naive enough to think Cabinet officials aren't political appointments

I mean, what is Gaetz going to do - investigate the Catholic Church for terrorism?

Rubio was a bad pick. That said, if he acts up in any way he will quickly be made a private citizen.
Actually, I think Rubio will be just fine.

But, then, I’m most excited about what Musk and Vivek might accomplish.

They can highlight so many areas of waste and duplication. There are a lot of federal agencies where the majority of employees are working from home. Get ‘em back in or close down and sell some federal buildings.

Consolidate all the poverty programs.

And get social security and Medicare back on sound financial footing. Raise the income cap.

Of course they are political. But the big 4 are the actual serious ones. Not reserved for political hackery.

There’s never been a worse pick than Gaetz. Just incredibly stupid
Dude, they’re not going to confirm him. Trump will get the other confirmations through because everyone is going to bitch and complain about Gaetz. Trump also gets to say he tried and throw red meat to MAGA.

As much as I hope you're right about this, I can't honestly say that I'm confident that much will come from it. Remember the Bowles-Simpson Commission? It actually came up with some reasonable ideas -- and won the votes of two sitting US Senators who also sat on the Commission (the late Tom Coburn and Dick Durbin). You know what Obama did with his commission's recommendations? Basically never even mentioned them again.

I don't really care about RFK from 60 years ago.

Anyone claiming Gaetz is qualified to be AG has a screw loose
If Matt Gaetz had spent 10 years as US Attorney for the Southern District of New York and 10 years before that as a state AG, he'd still be the worst pick in the history of the cabinet.

It's not his lack of qualifications that makes this so outrageous -- although that is certainly outrageous. It's him. His character, his personality, his total immaturity, his lack of basic merits as a public official. He destroyed McCarthy's speakership. And for what? What purpose was served by that? Just to show that he could? Did conservatives gain any legislative benefit from his nihilistic destruction?

He'll be confirmed. Guaranteed.

You can only lose 3 votes. No way Collins or Murkowski are voting for him. Considering they all hate him.... Not going to be that hard to find a couple more. A bunch just got elected to another 6 year term and will be there long after Trump is gone.
