Sorry, I was mainly thinking of the Supreme Court when referring to institutions.
I would describe our current plight as follows; one party running on a platform that's broadly unpopular with incoherent marketing. Another party that has turned into a cult of personality. A country that is completely rotting from corruption and insider dealing with a population who views politics as a pure team sport. May as well rip off the bandaid at this point. Gaetz certainly does that.
Ah yes. Then I would suspect John Curtis will oppose him. Curtis is a moderate who was a Dem for a number of years.

To be frank, does Congress presently exist? The county is governed by executive order and national emergency the last 20 or so odd years.
I look for Marjorie Taylor Greene to be named Secretary of the Department of JSLs.
What are you saying...that the Supreme Court has only recently become politicized?
I can't speak to how much the court was politicized in the decades between Reconstruction and the Great Depression. But I'm pretty familiar with how political it became in the New Deal era (and beyond, into the Warren Court). There's a lot of squawking about its politicization these days. But that's only because it more or less flipped -- and the people on the wrong side of that flip aren't happy about it.

At this point let it all implode. I'm hoping we go hog wild on tariffs, deport every illegal, tax cuts, gut the IRS, etc.

Trump will use this to flush out those Republicans who aren't loyal to him. Anyone who doesn't support Gaetz will have a target on his back.
Yeah, there have been failed nominations before. But I can't recall anything quite like this.
This is like Biden nominating somebody like Maxine Waters to by Secretary of the Treasury. There are some smart and serious members of Congress. There are also some abject clowns. Waters, Gaetz, MTG, Cori Bush, Bowman, Mike Collins, Ilhan Omar, Paul Gosar, Rashida Tlaib, etal...these people are sideshow acts.
If he gets fairly confirmed then all good. If he is appointed during a recess the good luck to all of us.

To what effect? I mean, is Donald Trump going to have any sway over Susan Collins? Trump got trounced in Maine, three times. Young isn't going to have any credible primary challengers here, IMO. The new Senator from Utah is expected to be one of the most moderate Rs in the new Senate.
All they need is 4 to oppose him. And I don't think it'll take long to get that.
I'm not a historian and you are probably right. What I recall is there was a time when judicial nominees were supported by both parties. To me they should be fact based appointments. If the public knows how they will rule on a specific case before they are appointed that's a problem. I prefer technocrats.

I'll be fine either way. If they play somewhat within the usual norms, then fine. It was a fair election so what are going to do.Someone's still upset about the results of the election......
I really am going to enjoy watching these union guys and blue collars realize that Musk and Trump really don't care about them. And I do think inflation is going to be crazy. I'll be fine, but many won't.
