A discussion about governmental priorities regarding energy would be interesting.
Ive posted often about how wind and solar cannot ever be the way forward, yet that seems to be our government focus. Not only is this priority short sighted, it creates shortages and increases consumer costs.

The NSF and DOE had consistently supported, heavily, fusion research, cleaner fission, hydrogen cells, etc.
It is a myth that there is a government energy monoculture focused on just developing solar and wind tech. Those technologies have simply progressed faster to commercialization and lack the admittedly irrational NIMBY concerns that have unfortunately limited fission reactor deployment.
