Funny.. DM & MW Both Lose To Illini By 20 @ Home

I think Cam’s biggest mistake was throwing in Randle El at QB as a quick fix for the offense. I get it, Cam was desperate and ARE was a great talent. I believe he should’ve been patient and stuck ARE at receiver and let Jones (I think that was the other QB at the time) be the QB. We had Williams at RB too. I think the following year those moves would’ve paid off. Could’ve still used ARE at QB in certain situations.
ARE was a once in a lifetime dynamo on the field. He was at the right position. The more you could have the ball in his hands, the better it was for us and at QB, he was touching the ball every single snap.

Our problem was never the offense. We had no defense until about the last 5 games of Cam’s final 2001 season.

It took Cam 5 years to figure out you had to play a little defense. By then it was too late for Cam.

I have a personal question for you.

I have a personal question for you. Are you from Huntington IN? The reason I ask is because I was driving on 24 through there and stopped by Nick's Kitchen to get a breaded tenderloin. I had not gotten one there before. It was very good. Thx in advance.
Yes I am there famous for them. If you get a chance again to get some food in huntington the Hoosier Drive Inn is really good tenderloins and burgers also good corn dogs ect. I now have relocated to Butler Indiana unfortunately no good food hotspots here.

Yes. Agree. The DC that last year came from Wake Forest, iirc. Believe his name was Bell and he really had the D playing well in 2001.

“Throwing in?” He played QB the previous 3 seasons and was quite accomplished at it, which is putting it lightly. The offense looked terrible that night in the ‘01 opener at NC St while he had a great QB playing WR. That was a terrible error in judgement by Cam.

As for “the following year those moves would’ve paid off” part? Sure, maybe for Jones playing QB for DiNardo, but Cam was trying to save his job in year 5 and knew he had to win now. Neither ARE nor, Levron had any more eligibility after that 2001 season.

Had they been able to stop anyone on D in years 2-4 in the Cam era, say giving up only 31-34 ppg instead of the 38-40 they gave up, he might’ve been able to hang around a while.

Thx I will have to check it out. When I was living in Pennsylvania I saw a story about great tenderloins and Nicks was in the story. So I vowed if I had a chance I would stop by there. Looks like a nice town.

Wow, thanks for doing the research = very cool!
But from my perspective, you validated my point. Coach Knight won a lot of close games. With my crimson colored glasses, my memory is we won every close game coming down the stretch. The two best examples are vs the Fab Five in 1993. Two wins by 1 point each.
For the record, my post did say "might"
CDM might be a tough out every year because he executes well.
Or maybe we hire him?
He also ignored the first few years of RMK where he had a dozen or so games decided by 2 or 3 possessions. I found the selective time frame odd if the whole post was about exactness of data.
