For you lawyers -- what would you do if targeted by Trump?

+1

Trump v. 3.0, without vendettas, using sensible experts, ruthlessly streamlining the Government to lay a bedrock foundation for a Greater America. In a word, statesman.

I’ve always believed it was going to take a president who was willing to commit political suicide to get this mess cleaned up. Because whether it involves tax hikes, benefit cuts, higher cost sharing, etc., every single action necessary is going to be unpopular.

If Trump is willing to put on the kind of scorched earth shit show we’ve witnessed recently, he may as well not stop with global tariffs.

The only thing he's put on the table, so far, is raising the top tax rate.

Trump has sicced the DOJ on Miles Taylor (“Anonymous”) and has characterized his actions as “treason.”

This is just classic despotic behavior. It’s absolutely no different than what people like Putin, Maduro, Xi, etal etal do to dissidents. And, to a man, they all rest on the same premise: that they are the state, and the state is them.

It’s unconscionable. And if I worked in the DOJ and was assigned to do this, I’d resign…and hope he doesn’t come for me next.

Looks like Taylor is an IU guy.

He's gone after Chris Krebs as well. Simply for not agreeing with the Big Lie.

Trump (or any general government executive) is wrong to sic prosecutors on anybody. Many do it. You need tone down that Putin, Maduro, Xi baloney.

make one serious post and I’d engage you. But I’ve retired from putting up with jerkoffs.
I don’t get it. You MAGAs have your guy back in the White House, with his executive power growing by the day. You’ve also got the relatively rare government trifecta and a regime leader who’s surrounded by loyalists who are more than happy to do his personal bidding. (No more pesky John Kelly, Jim Mattis or Mark Milley types to try to keep him on the straight and narrow). Yet there’s all this simmering anger. Seems like many/most of you are ready to blow at any time. Now Mark’s a jerkoff. Honest question: what’s wrong with you?

Mark has always been a jerkoff. That part hasn’t changed. But I’m not the one ready to blow. Look at the threads about Trump. The never Trumpers have lost it. Now go burn a Tesla or something.

I would, if the shoe didn’t fit. But does it not?

Siccing the Justice Department on a dissident is bad enough. To describe their dissidence as “treason” is beyond the pale. And that’s what needs to be toned down, not my (correct) comparison to Putin and Xi.

Here’s what statutory law says about Treason.

18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
How does criticizing a president, whether one works in the administration or not, qualify as giving aid and comfort to America’s enemies? We’re talking about a crime that literally carries a possible penalty of death.

And you’re telling me to tone it down?

Denial. Projection. Flippancy. False equivalences and other fallacies. Your stock-in-trade.

I'm not sure why Susman Godfrey would have security clearance at all. Govt work must be a very small % of their business. They're a high profile litigation firm that is more likely to sue the govt than work for it.
Because you need a security clearance to get information from the government to sue Republicans.

Background investigations for a clearance take months. This is why law firms have a number of lawyers with clearances employed.
There is no way to know beforehand who can access on a 'need to know' basis.

As you well know, there are levels of clearances and who can access certain information. Just having a lawyer on staff with a clearance doesn't mean they have carte blanche to everything.

This is the body that oversees the admin, security, etc. of federal courts throughout the country (although each courthouse is usually independently managed by its own judiciary and admin):

You'll notice it's created by statute but "the Director of the AO carries out statutory responsibilities and performs other duties under the supervision and direction of the Judicial Conference of the United States, the Judiciary’s principal policy-making body."

So I don't think the President has the power to say who can and cannot go into a federal courthouse--it's a separation of powers issue.
Dammit, you're ruining a perfectly good Trump conspiracy theory.

Imagine that - after being called a traitor and every other name in the book, Trump has the temerity to do the same to one of his critics.

Shocking, indeed!
Big difference, DANK. Trump is above the law. He also controls the DOJ, which he is fully politicizing to go after dissenters like Taylor and Krebs.

The first part is the clearance. A person with a clearance can be given access when he is deemed to have a need to know. But lawyers without a clearance can’t be granted access. There is a reason I had Top Secret, and still do, but only saw it when I had a need to know.

You still have TS clearance?

I'm getting Trump on the line now.....

This is very inseemly at best and looks a whole hell of a lot like extortion.

It IS extortion. But he's immune.

I posted a Slate opinion piece the other day that said that Bragg should try for an indictment on this exact same stuff. Doesn't appear anyone has the stomach for it. Trump has won.

This isn't a deal involving national security clearance. This is a deal with the EEOC over these different law firms' hiring practices.

As for the causes he supports, here they are:

“President Trump and the Law Firms both support and agree to work on, including in the following areas: Assisting Veterans and other Public Servants, including, among others, members of the Military, Gold Star families, Law Enforcement, and First Responders; ensuring fairness in our Justice System; and combatting Antisemitism,” Trump wrote in announcing the deals on Truth Social.

Extortion is just fine the results are viewed positively.

Cant open. Have another link?
Nope, more law firms have offered 100s of millions of dollars of legal services to the Trump administration to avoid the EO penalties of loss of clearances and no access to government buildings. These law firms did nothing more than provide legal services to clients President Trump doesn’t like. This retribution and revenge crap is among the most outrageous things I’ve ever seen a President do.

The article I linked had no mention of access to govt. buildings. The settlements do not involve the EOs, they are linked to the EEOC. And I think you're wrong about these law firms not doing anything wrong--I'm guessing they didn't want to litigate their hiring practices for a very good reason.

It wouldn't surprise me, though, if the admin was directed to go after these firms because they pursued litigation Trump/MAGA doesn't like, which sucks.
