First step toward players becoming employees

Players being considered workers for the universities opens up a lot more issues that players think. The focus is on what they gain, IE insurance after playing years is over, but not what they could lose. The relationships been coaches and players would change in ways we won't see ahead of time. Will there become more of an adversarial relationship between coaches and players.

Like any change it will bring expected results but also unexpected which will need to be addressed if and when this happens.

If they use the original "Guild" approach it "might" be workable..., but... with Warren involved expect something closer to a Marxist "modern" union approach which will ultimately squirrel up everything...

I actually saw one of the last workable Guilds up close (a family member was involved) and it worked well without going full blown commie* (*where the "modern" union fights hard for the very Worst employees and consistently screws the best... [I've seen that version too]..

I’ve said for awhile that players are going to want a share of the revenues. This is one way that will likely happen. NIL was only the start.

translation,

anything that isn't all for ownership and C-suite execs and let them eat cake for the workers, is Marxist, Communist, and the definition of evil on earth.

yes, you spout that drivel all day every day on the Water Cooler.

you see the problem with the 10 richest people in the US having as twice as much wealth as the bottom 50% (180 million) of the population combined, as being that the bottom 180 million have anything at all.

had colleges and their top execs addressed the "all for us - none for you" issues 20 yrs ago like they should have, things wouldn't be the total clusterfk mess they now are.

and by "Warren", i assume you're referring to the "Marxist" "commie" commish of the B10, who using selective M&A corporate consolidation in concert with the SEC, has been and currently is trying to kill off all the other conferences as competitors for pay tv/pay streaming money, to expand the "all for us, none for you" agenda, to between the schools as well.

As soon as they get paid, they can get boo’d as well. You want the money? Fine. But you’re going to have to perform or you deserve to hear about it from the paying customers. It’s big boy ball now. Comes with the territory.
I’d like to hope that doesn’t occur, but I’ve heard more than a smattering of boos directed at our players and coaches in both MS and AH over the last couple of decades. We should always be better than that, pay or no pay.

That’s when they weren’t getting paid, at least the player. You are a great high school player that relies on your athletic ability and you demand more money out of high school than many folks would earn in a lifetime? Good for you, but now you are paid for performance. You don’t cut it, you get the same treatment every other working person gets. Accountability and criticism.

More likely to hear it if they are paid, that is certain. Tom Crean was booed, but he was highly paid.

One thing they need to look at is if the Players are Employees, and are subject to traditional Workers Compensation Rules as We know it in the real World. What happens if someone injures a neck and your Workman's Compensation Doctor/Board determine You are disabled, determine the severity of the Disability and determine You can't engage in your previous activities.

You really can't "Doctor Shop " outside the WC System and look for an opinion that is in your favor to continue playing. You shouldn't be able to play until You get a release "within the system".

Non cash things such as standardized medical care will some of the early discussion points. You are right...many complexities to work through
