Seeing how so many thought we had a great team ready before this season started, I don’t put much stock in the ability of this board to discern the strength of a recruiting haul. I choose to trust DeVries regarding whether a specific recruit will fill a role on his roster.

I think the smart takes were those that stated Woodson had two issues he needed to fix immediately:

1) talent; and
2) coaching

They specifically differentiated between talent and team. Woodson bought a lot of talent - I think everyone agreed - and I and lots of others gave him his credit for that. He couldn't coach it, which I and many others suspected would be the case. So here we are.

Cooper Flagg isn't portalling. He could be a lottery pick now.
I saw an interview with him and it sounded as though he wanted to play another year for Duke. He turned 18 during the season and said he wanted to enjoy more of the college experience while he was young.

I used to watch them on tv in the mid 70's (Gonnella bread commercials), with Joe Ponsetto, Gary Garland, Corzine, and others. Not much hoops on back then, but they were fun to watch. Of course, Ray Meyer was classic.

Red Rusch on the call!! I was a college basketball junkie as a kid watching on channel 44, then eventually on channel 9, or listening on AM 720 to DePaul games. Was crushed when ND avenged their loss to the demons in ‘78 to go to the Final 4. Dave Corzine had gone for 40, or so Vs U of L on Friday night, but hurt his ankle and not full strength on Sunday. Had a great Final 4 run in ‘79 beating UCLA and nearly ISU. Good stuff.

Seeing some Crystal Balls on Conor Enright. Point guard for DePaul, played for DeVries at Drake. Looks like he was injured for part of the year, ironically a shoulder injury...averaged almost 7 assists a game when he played.

After watching the NCAA tournament thus far... I hope we end up getting higher level guys than this kid... but when healthy, it appears he's a pretty good shooter, and is a decent playmaker. Has a rep for being a good lead defender too...though I'd wonder on that one at the B10 level.

I REALLY hope DeVries is a guy that can go out and get a group of "dudes" on the perimeter, like Pope got, like Sampson always does, like Baylor seemingly always has. Butler, Oweh, Robert Wright, Cryer... we need to get some dawgs leading our team like that.

I don't see this Enright kid being that. So if he does choose IU, and he's the planned PG, we HAVE to go get some strong, athletic, versatile other guards and wings.
Low hanging fruit for sure

Rice is the one kid I'd want to give another shot to under DeVries. But rumblings him and Carlyle will both be in portal by weekend's end.
Idk what Rice made this season, but would think nobody would be paying Carlyle anything close to the reported $800K he stole from IU donors this season. All of them will find out not everyplace has quite the deep pockets they got spoiled with at IU.

Me too. Give me speed, athletic ability and the ability to create for yourself all day. The game is so much fun to watch when good back courts (this included the 3 position now) are able to get where they want and score in multiple ways.

Not sure a guard from DePaul who averaged 8 points a game for a bottom feeder Big East team is that player.
You just never know..
You can be a nobody one yr..And the next your 1st team Big..

Weren't there commercials for TRAY-sure Island? Maybe that was Loyola broadcasts? Can't remember - I was young (born in '73)

His ESPN profile doesn't list 21-22??

I'm seeing that he was a true junior last year. I think he's really good. I'd absolutely love him.
Enright
Swope and/or Conwell... wouldn't think we'd get both of them... but getting either would be big, BOTH would be huge.
Powell
Hansberry
DeVries
Sisley

Jayden Stone maybe as well...

That's a nice start if it happens. Gotta get the staff rounded out. IndyResident seems to think if Barnett follows DeVries to IU, that we'd have a very good chance at Nick Davidson from Nevada. That would be enormous.

I saw a tweet about a list of suitors for Powell and IU wasn't on it - not that it means anything, but you'd think the tweeter would take the layup.

Also, Rice is in the portal. Announced about 15 minutes ago.

At this point, I'm just going to assume all of them are out. And that's happening as DeVries is sitting down with them and interviewing them. Carlyle the only one left?

I guess if Powell doesn't consider IU, that's a sign he and DeVries probably didn't end up jiving all that much this season.

But from his pure basketball side, he'd be a great pickup. Bummed if he's not considering IU, on the surface.
