First (2nd) Portal addition coming?...

You've given a ton of good info...
Revised wish list... in order of preference (not listing guys that aren't in portal, or didn't play for a coach that changed jobs)
1. Ryan Conwell (Xavier)... he's an Indy kid... hopefully won't want to follow Miller all the way to Texas.
2. Nick Davidson (Nevada)... obvious high level big. Only question I'd have is defensively...haven't really read or seen anything on how good a defender he is. But offensively, he'll thrive in anyones system.
2. Jayden Stone... (WVU)... has size, good shooter, good creator...
3. Jonathon Powell (WVU)... 6-6, versatile wing, good foundation with Cupps and DeVries coaching.
4. Enright (DePaul)... need a couple guys, at least, as good as Conwell and Stone, so Enright isn't a 30+ mpg guy. But I do think there's a lot to be said for his mentality, his history with DeVries, etc... I'd be fine with Gabe Cupps staying and filling this role too, but it seems like Enright might be a little better overall shooter, so I'd prefer him in the end.
6. Hansberry... (WVU)... You and Seyton have weighed in on him. I like his defense and rebounding, and that he's a big, physical guy.
7. Josh Dix... (Iowa)... Shooter, has some length, competitor
8. Sincere Harris... as long as he knows his role is lock down defender, cutter, rebounder.... and doesn't have Kanaan Carlyle thoughts coming in to games... he could be a very valuable rotation guy.
9. Kevin Odih... Length, has PG ball skills, by all reports is a gritty and willing defender...no clue how he's wired, but if he's a motor guy, competitor, he'd be a good freshman to bring in as a multiple year guy.
These guys, to go along with DeVries and Sisley. There will be a million names that come and go over the next few weeks. This is a decent start though.
***disclaimer on any/all names...that Coach DeVries knows that they'd fit his culture and how he wants his IU teams to play. If an "obvious" guy like Nick Davidson doesn't fit that, for whatever reason, then I hope he doesn't go after him just because he has the money to get him.
2. Nick Davidson---if DeVries is able to bring Kory Barnett with him (former West Va asst/IU walk-on) the chances of landing Davidson go up exponentially. Barnett was on staff with Alford at Nevada and played a pretty big role in recruiting Davidson to Reno. Believe Barnett has interviewed for the Oral Roberts HC job so there is a chance he may not follow.
As far as freshman go, I would be good with a 4 man class. Sisley, Odih and MacLean who were previously committed to West Virginia, and I would take a flyer on a guy like Dezmon Briscoe who plays for Attucks and is playing for the 3A title Saturday. Had a decent offer list for a guy ranked in the 200s and was also offered by DeVries shortly after taking the WV job last April. IU has missed too many of these guys over the years who have gone to have good careers at other schools.
Can't decide if I like Briscoe, or not. Watched quite a few of his Indiana Elite games this past summer...he was the guy that the players and coaches were constantly having to "pull back" from refs, other teams, etc... Sometimes a little of that is good, points to competitiveness...but with him, it seemed to border on being a bit much.
There are tons of unknowns in all this...if he's just a fiery competitor, and DeVries knows that... he, for sure, could be a steal. Good overall motor, good hands in the post, rebounds out of his space, big body...
Also... is Nick Davidson on any NBA draft boards? Sure seems like the type of guy lots of NBA GMs are looking for.
With roster limits expanding to 15 and walk-ons becoming a thing of the past, I think he's worth a look. If he does ever develop an outside shot he could end up being a steal. But he's active and his motor is non-stop, always around the ball. Definitely has the feel a four year program guy,
I wonder if DD could get Singleton from Jeffersonville to decommit from NW and come to IU. Kid is long and from what I've heard a very good kid/student. UofL offered him so I think the talent is there.
Kennard Davis Jr SIU in the portal with two years of eligibility left. Big time scoring 2 guard for the Saluskis last year. St. Louis native so probably high on the radar of teams like KU, Illinois, Mizzou but DeVries ties to the Missouri Valley may help. He'll command a ton of suitors.
Another potential PG target. Gary Indiana native won SoCon player of the year. Previously played at Indiana State and John Logan Community College before transferring to East Tennessee State. DeVries has an excellent track record recruiting Northwest Indiana, especially the region where several of his Drake players hailed from.

If Enright is only a little better overall shooter, he needs to stay the hell outta Bloomington. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a coach’s kid with as lousy a shot as Cupps. Almost made Galloway’s shot seem smooth.
Well I think it was more like even Woody can’t screw this up. See we under rated him.
The offense Cupps was running, and the shots he was taking/getting, are what led to his relative struggles. He was actually a pretty decent catch and shoot, shooter for IU...
He's not Alford or Jordan Hulls, no one ever thought he was going to be (or shouldn't have if they did), but he was a solid perimeter shooter in HS and AAU. IU's offense wasn't exactly conducive to guards shooting the ball well, though.
Right, we were not allowed to see the best of Gabe Cupps under Woodson. Woodson could f' up a steel ball he was that bad.
No- I’m not willing to accept that- we’ve only seen Rice play for Mike Woodson. He was Pac-16 freshman of the year and had backwater Washington State in the Dance. If Coach Devries wants the kid that’s enough for me. At least we know he’s a lockdown defender when he so desires!
I was excited until I saw him listing Cooper Flagg in the portal.
If we're getting the Enright that shot 43% from 3 at Creighton two years ago, then bring him on - at worst he can be good depth off the bench. If we're getting the guy that shot 39% from the field and turned it over 3+ times a game at DePaul, then pass. Seems like he's probably worth a scholarship, but whether he'll earn any playing time is another question
I can’t remember a player at IU that got bumped off his spot easier than Cupps. Lander probably comes closest.
Magoon Gwath San Diego St. MWC DPOY and FPOY. Low usage big with range out to the 3 point line. One of the best rim protectors in the country. Should immediately be at the top of DeVries list. Unfortunately will be one of the most targeted players in the portal.

Seeing how so many thought we had a great team ready before this season started, I don’t put much stock in the ability of this board to discern the strength of a recruiting haul. I choose to trust DeVries regarding whether a specific recruit will fill a role on his roster.
Well….in recent history, it has been really important to win the summers. We don’t seem to win in the other seasons.
He's probably first trying to get the kids he successfully recruited to UWV next season to follow him to IU. I'm sure he's also in contact with the guys on UWV who are now in the portal or considering it. I don't think right now it's a case of signing starters. Just get good players who I'm sure already know IU has a rich NIL budget. You can also be sure he wants his kind of players-he saw IU go out and sign a bunch of supposedly star players to big NIL last season that didn't necessarily fit as a team. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to imagine he's not going to follow that model.
It has been said that the average college kid today has the mental toughness and maturity of a high school freshman from the 1970s.
Take a look at Quimari Patterson, originally from Gary, then at ISU, now at East Tennessee, with 1 year in JC I think he fits your definition of a dude who can do some things. Only 6'1" but can shoot and drive. More of a combo guard than a point. Averaged 19+ and was player of the year in the southern conference.
Apparently, Devries recruited NW Indiana when he was at Drake.
This kid is presently #6 in 247, which will probably be 56 when all is said and done, but he is getting noticed.
For what it's worth (which obviously isn't much) I think I recall this past seasons group playing TN at Tennessee, in basically a preseason pick up game, and beating them at their place...
That result would have seemed to indicate that the talent was on hand to have a decent season (which brings us back to coaching...)...
Hopefully, we've significantly upgraded the coaching part of the equation. Now we have to hope that the new staff can find the talent and mold them into a TEAM...
He listed him as a potential addition to the portal, but even so, yes, I agree. But he's been insistent that teams are putting together a huge deal for Braden Smith. Not saying Smith would leave, but that he will be wooed heavily with big dollar amounts.
