Fan Nation - Gabe Cupps, Bronny James Match Up on ESPN Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET

Cupps looks small and slow, his dad is the coach, they are killing a much more talented team by playing team basketball, Reed Shepard is a player

Gabe is exactly the glue we’ve lacked for too long. 100% guaranteed. And Reed Sheppard is going to be a problem.

Disagree with this assessment. He plays as part of the team. He stayed in from of his man on the defensive side of the ball and was the only player to take a charge in the game.

He isn’t blazing fast or super athletic, but he sure as shit isn’t “slow”. He can also shoot the rock. Looked pretty good to me and the type of player that will really start to contribute his 2nd or 3rd year. Other teams will hate him.

Rivals has bronny as a top 60 player, yet he only has 1 low level offer. Appears to be highly over ranked(for obvious reasons). Will be interesting to see what college he goes to if he doesn't choose g league. Hard to imagine he ever ends up in the NBA as I believe he only averages a handful of points for his sierra canyon team. Will honestly be surprised if he ends up anything more than a role player type guy at the college level.

Yep, I think he'll contribute and looks really solid. Moves his feet well and seems to like to defend. Whether a backup or starter, I think he'll be a 4 year contributor. That team they played was full of elite athletes which may have been why he looked "slow" relatively speaking.

Micheal Lewis type player.

Solid role player off the bench. Had he not been committed to IU I wouldn’t even have noticed him

Off who's bench? You determined that off one game where they were in control the entire time? He's had games where he scores more and I think will be a really solid player for us. If we have a 5 star PG, then he might back him up, but let's not pencil a kid's career role in after 1 AAU game they won by 14, as he's entering his senior year.

He actually looked very good. I didn’t think he looked small.
How'd he look? Like a PG running a team that was in control of a game with a couple teammates who were on. He didn't have to be flashy or dominant and he got the ball to the guys who were on, and was hustling back to contest shots and keep the other team from mounting any comeback. They dominated a team full of very athletic kids; don't think you could want much more out of PG prospect.

If Bronny had interest in Duke, UNC, IU, or any other college he would have an offer. He is LeBron James son, he could suck at bball, if his dad wants to play with him in the NBA he will get drafted. Hell, if I was the Knicks I would legit take him as a top 5 pick if I had it.

He was in complete control of the game from the start. He was the obvious Alpha/Point guard, on a team that dismantled a team that had 6 top 80 kids on its roster.

And per kurt's comment about him being slow...he didn't have any issues getting around, and keeping in front of, Dillingham...a highly rated, very quick and athletic PG going to Kentucky. He's plenty fast enough.

Depending on who comes back, I wouldn't be shocked, at all, if he's our starting PG day 1 as a frosh. If JHS is back, maybe backing him up, maybe playing alongside him.

I actually like what I'm hearing about Cupps. Still believe solid 4 year guards with high BB-IQ give teams the ability to make deep tournament runs. Cupps style and leadership played a big part in taking down this thoroughbred opponent. That's his influence already showing.

if JHS goes pro I am gonna be smoking blunts in Houston in April.

This, I believe this is a spot on assessment. He' s the prototypical PG in that he's always looking for his teammates first and thinking about his shot last. With that said, did you see the quick 3 he nailed in the second half with the other team making a charge? Great shot, quick release and totally within the flow of the offense.

One other thing....his dad looking for a college gig by chance? Damn, I know it was one game, but that team looked as well coached on both ends of the floor as I've seen in a long time! I mean, that guy is one helluva coach and I loved his demeanor the whole game. Seriously impressed.

at one point the analyst (Biancardi?) praised his Dad and said he always learns something watching him Coach during a game. Think he's been at his regular gig (Centerville HS, OH?) for a good while

Why would duke or any other top program waste a scholarship on a kid that will never play? None of the programs listed need bronny james in any sort of fashion. I think you're highly overestimating his value just because he's LeBrons kid. And any GM that would draft bronny should be fired on the spot. Let alone wasting a top 5 pick on him.

I see why you went to PU, at least they have a great engineering school! I need good engineers working for me, while I handle the business decisions.

While I agree, I also agree with Cav. Not sure what Bronny's college prospects are, but if Lebron wants him on his roster in the NBA, he will be on the roster. Lebron is the GM of wherever he goes.

Guess I'll just have to agree to disagree. Can't see any scenario where the Lakers(or any other NBA franchise) would allow that to happen unless he demonstrates being even somewhat close to an NBA level player. Which by all objective accounts he is not projected to be.

James has D1 talent, supposedly Hes going to the g league if he is in fact lacking offers that would be why. Cupps is a solid player he is no Yogi Ferrel by any stretch. His dad is a helluva coach they controlled a team that was way more talented. Cupps is a typical coach's son , he plays smart and lets the game come to him didn't force anything. I see him as a solid backup point guard for us. size and athleticism imo will keep him from ever going beyond that.

That team they beat was literally put together at the last minute, Cupps team played good team basketball and are very well coached. that being said I like Cupps and think he will be solid for us, just not sure he will ever be a starter, but he will have value

I’ll help ya out. Times Square was going nuts when the Knicks won a game against Trey Young and the Hawks a few years ago in the first round. Do you have any idea what the revenue would be for the Knicks if LeBron James was on their team, even if it was at 40? So many disaster franchises, Knicks being #1 that would kill for LeBron on their team. It is billions of dollars we are talking about.

He had 13 and only missed 1 shot. They spent basically the whole game talking about his relationship with Bronny and Lebron? How could you have missed that even if he weren’t committed to IU?
Because he doesn’t understand the whole game of ball. That kid plays complete games. He isn’t gifted he’s a hard working mental player. Something IU fans havnt seen in a long time.

Yeah, from the highlights I've seen and last nights game and descriptions what I think we're getting is a Jordan Hulls type guy who is a little taller and quicker but will shoot similarly. He'll help stabilize the backcourt as long as he's here, I would think.

He will be better defensively probably.

Reed Shepard was the most impressive player that game. Dude can shoot, handle, pass, and play D.

Cupps played his role but I’d like to see him shoot more, considering everyone had the green light to throw up a 3 at any point.

Would IU let him wear Nike’s?

Agree 100% on Shepard. He showed out. Cupps played his role very well….when the team needs him to shoot, I’m betting he will and he’ll make them at a high clip.

Could be a 2 way contract thing with the G league to where he might come up at some point in the season to at least be on Lebron's team for a period of time. I know Lebron has said his dream is to play in the NBA with his son. I just feel that if Lebron wants to make it happen, it will happen. I've never seen the kid play but it seems he is not an NBA player talent-wise from what I've heard., So it would be a case just to appease Lebron if that's what he wants.
