Presser Quotes:

“I think the new (practice) structure helps a lot. From the studies they came up with in the NFL and college football where practices four, five and six were where a lot of those injuries would occur. That's where the three-practice model kind of came from. You get a regeneration day where you lift, watch film, but you don't practice, don't go out and do anything physical from that regard on the field.”

Fewer injuries would be a plus.

”Fortunately, we did not have any long-term injuries in spring or the summer.”

“On which position groups he feels strongest about entering fall camp…
TA: I would say I'm really excited about our running back room. I can say that probably about a couple different rooms. I really feel like there's some maturity there that we've added.

I think Josh has really honed in on being such a strong leader in that room, the way he handles his business as a pro. He's just such an attention-to-detail guy. Gotten bigger, stronger, faster. With Jaylin Lucas' development in that room. David Hollomanis another young guy, Trent Howland, guys that have been here.

Expect them to all contribute. So, it's a group that's got a lot of experience to it, but also some explosive guys in there, bigger, stronger, more powerful than they were a year ago. That group excites me.

I think our D-line is the one we've changed the most by the guys we've added. Added six guys to that room this off-season. A lot of guys graduated. Really physically looks different, bigger. Guys have a lot more mass that we needed. Guys that have played Division I football at a high level. Power Five guys. A guy like Andre is coming from the MAC level where he has an opportunity to prove himself in the Big Ten. I really like that room.

… added a couple offensive linemen as well that I'm excited about that we know need to step up and help us with Max Longman, guys that came to this program that are 300-pound guys that have played Division I football.“

Or our awesomeness in the transfer portal Mr glass is half empty
We were only in the transfer portal so actively because of our performance over the last two seasons, which included two close conference wins (out of 18 games played) and victories over Western Kentucky and Idaho (twice each). These are the facts, regardless of what you may feel about them.

Just curious but is Sampson James still on the team? I didn’t see his name on the roster. Thanks

Fourteen of 22 projected starters in this mock depth chart are transfers (six on O, eight on D), with 25 of 44 in the two-deep. Lay bare our recruiting and development issues.
Well 14 portal guys that were probably non starters or had other issues at their former schools, we will see

2nd team doesn't mean you are a starter. I count 7 on the first team of the 22. 4 of the 7 were starters and out of the other 3, 2 played a lot. Jackson is the only one that didn't play. Both Carters started. LB from Stanford started and had a very good game at ND. Toomer and Minor both played a lot. But hey you probably didn't know that.

Fourteen of the 22 listed starters are transfers (either last year or this), and 25 of the 44 two deep are. As I’m sure you know, pretty much everyone in the two deep will see plenty of playing time during the season, so it’s a relevant view of the roster.

Are you counting jucos? They started at their juco. So what is your point, we shouldn't go in the transfer portal? Hate to break the news to you but Michigan and Ohio State were very active in the transfer portal. PU Got their QB from the portal. Wisky got their QB from the portal. Iowa got their QB from the portal. He wasn't playing at Michigan either.

Once again getting an early start. The first day of fall is September 23rd. What does that say about attention to detail?

No, the point is that we’ve been forced to go heavily onto the portal (over half of our two deeps on both sides started their college careers somewhere other than with us) to counter our lack of recruiting and player development. That’s not the sign of a building program.

Or just a sign of the times.

Yea, recruiting has dipped with our recent losing seasons (which is pretty normal) but everyone is dealing with more transfers than in the past. The whole don't have to sit out any more and legalizing paying players will do that.

You are just trying hard to squeeze in some pessimism.

Squeeze in pessimism? After going 6-18:eek:ver the last two seasons? Why aren’t you dissatisfied with that kind of performance, and why wouldn’t you want us to build a sustainably winning program rather than making a big deal over a football only weight room? Really strange, but not surprising.

lol, never said i was satisfied with 6-18 but apparently you have to put words in other poster's mouths in order to argue with them.

We have done a good job glossing over the fact that every quarterback that could walk transferred out and the Hoosiers could not find a single quarterback with experience to transfer in. And then the coaching staff had the audacity to say that they decided not to look for a quarterback with experience.

However once the Ohio State game starts we will have a quarterback on the roster who has started a college football game. Right now there are no players on the roster who have started a game before at the college level.

Dexter is on the roster and hurt. Jackson is a very highly rated recruit. Chance Nolan couldn't get into IU because he got hurt at OSU and couldn't finish the classes he needed. Yes it would be better if had an experienced QB. But we do have an experienced OL coach now that will hopefully make a huge difference.

Our new OL coach is a breath of fresh air … impressive.

Carter Smith is a starter and Max Longman is pushing those ahead of him.

Bedford looks good
After reading the article published today on the home page about the OL, it makes me think what the hell was going on the previous years? It sounded like the leadership, development and implementation was a disaster.

It was really apparent after Carey took over last year that we began to play to the whistle. Before Carey I saw us try to block and then once we were stopped or neutralized we would quit driving our legs. Hiller couldn't get the most out of the players.

Well we need to see if there is a drastic change this year. Jaylin Lucas and others have said there will be but it remains to be seen.
The supposed change up front last year had much more to do with the change at quarterback, the simplification of the offense that followed, and the lack of tape our last two opponents had on DW. The Carey Effect has been way overblown.

I saw it with my own eyes. I actually go to the games and watch them. Dexter played vs. Ohio State. They had tape on him.

Don't know if it is my equipment or my ears but it was next to impossible to hear BB. After listening 3 different times I think I heard enough to get the drift. Seems to me ifen you're a journalist to lazy to write about a matter you'd at least be interested in your product enough for it to be easy to use. The visual is absolutely worthless, as it is the audio that's drawing opinions. Poor use of 21st century TECH.

BINGO, DITTO, INDUBITABLY, enter Carey and the lights came on. Difference in play had me shaking my head as to how can that happen and shaking my fist at Hiller packing his bags.

Ya there was a gameplan change with the QB change but it was the attitude change of the OL that stood out and caught my lying eyes. That had everything to do with the change in leadership coaching the position.
