Eliminating DEI/CRT/anti-racism in university administration

Wokees getting kicked to the curb for the next 4 years. Standardized tests back. Merit. And f*uck your feelz.

My daughter cannot catch a break

Would the PBS series with Henry Louis Gates entitled "Many Rivers to Cross" be the type of "woke" material the Trump administration finds objectionable?

I expect the Repub's Project 2025 to tie higher ed federal funding (think research and Pell Grants) to the removal of DEI offices, plus they will try to throw in some sort of required course or Trump bible's in every student union.

Most universities’ lawyers have been advising the removal of DEI references and revising DEI offices for the last couple years at least. Especially in states where anti-DEI legislation has been proposed.

This kind of thing had been right-sizing itself regardless of how the presidential election played out. Trump will likely take full credit for it, but it’s a little like taking over at the 22nd mile of a marathon.

EDIT TO ADD: The wheels for all this were set in motion with the Supreme Court ruling against UNC and Harvard. Admission requirements, DEI offerings, all that stuff has been significantly shifted at most places.

I've noticed that as well. I know some of the DEI offices closed due to budgetary reasons and administrative consolidation. A few of those schools just moved those services/values under the umbrella of an existing office, like the Dean of Students Office.

Yep - that happened, but some schools also just renamed/rebranded/expanded those offices to include rural disadvantaged students, students with disabilities and those economically disadvantaged. To be honest, that's probably what their focus should have been all along.

So you're saying that Project 2025 isn't all bad?

On a serious note I like the idea of eliminating it in administration. I would hope the trannies and all the groups are preserved. The student groups preserved and funded. I also believe in a breadth of courses and if crt is offered as part of that selection good

I'm honestly not sure how she ended up there. She was from Columbus. That said, I'm pretty sure she landed in Kansas City.

Totally random, I drove through St. Louis and stayed on the west side of town on a roadtrip to Lawrence, KS in mid December. I almost sent you a message about getting a drink. Next time.

I like Lawrence and ku. And with its proximity to kc it’s a good set up.

I'm just going to assume he's at Bar Napoli and ask around for McMurtry

It was the first time I'd ever been. For a college basketball player, it'd be hard to turn down an offer to play at a place like Allen Fieldhouse or Cameron Indoor Stadium. Allen Fieldhouse is louder though.
My partner went to ku and is a rabid fan. Lots of people from here. I think they have reciprocity for in state. And kc is fun for what it is.

I didn't realize how close it was to Kansas City. In my mind I thought it'd be more like the distance between Bloomington and Indy or Athens and Columbus. Lawrence is almost a suburb of KC, which is cool.

Yeah it’s a good set up for sure.

Certainly on the groups. Freedom of association extends to everybody.

I fully expect there will be some overzealous Ryan Walters type people who will overplay the hand they've been dealt -- either by trying to crack down on campus groups they don't like or some other way that crosses the line. In my experience, people like that simply can't help themselves. And when they see a political wave they can hop on, they'll not only hop on it, they'll commandeer it and steer it in their preferred direction. They are, after all, authoritarians...and that's what authoritarians do.

Concur. The diversity of those groups is an essential part of the college culture community experience exposure etc. Don’t need to turn them all into the citadel

801 is boring. Need something walkable from Ritz. Lunch already at the crossing.
