Drug Ads

probably not but it's a great idea

the average person has no idea how to evaluate these drugs specific to their needs

better to leave it up to the the cute young drug reps the pharm companies send directly to the office

Does it really matter? It's not like I can demand that my doctor (if I could afford one now) give me a script for some crap I saw on TV. But the Ad's do allow me to ask informed questions, instead of just take it up the syringe and do as I am told.

The ads aren’t meant to drive consumer demand. They’re mean to purchase media obsequiousness and implicitness.

Maybe drugs would be cheaper if millions weren’t spent advertising them.

17 year patents could come with a limited advertising, but would require an act of Congress.

The only studies I've read about usually come up with the same conclusion, that consumers are better informed and better outcomes. But I haven't looked for any since the Obamacare arguments.

Anyway, no, banning speech is bullshit. Leave that to the leftists. Although Republicans don't leave it to leftists, they love bans too.

I would have liked all that. No no no that’s when I’m seeing patients. Has to be late. 5:30. Come by then. Dirty pharm reps

My mom loved the young drug reps. Kinda looked at them like the adult daughters she never had. She'd listen to their pitch, shake them down for all the samples they had (mom gave those to her indigent patients), and then they'd break out the bottle and have drinks and socialize. More than once she tried to fix one up with me or my brothers.

Can Kennedy/Trump actually ban Drug Ads?
The drug ads predominantly target females and are predominantly focused on mental health. There is a subliminal message there.

Then there are all the crap addressing old people like Balance of Nature, Prevergen, and sleep aids.

The worst are the Untukit ads that make the guy sound like he solved superconducting or something.

A lot of pitiful people out there to cause that much spending of advertising dollar on crap.

I like the ads for beer, pickups and chainsaws.

The FDA can.... they didn't become legal on TV until the mid 90s and if I recall correctly (which is a big IF) that was just because the FSA relaxed the guidelines as far as advertising.

Do you want them banned? If so, why?

Why do drug companies need to spend millions advertising drugs a doctor has to prescribe? The advertising adds more cost to the drug. On any given evening it seems like every other ad is for drugs.

Don’t forget the gay guys making out. They keep it racially even. Always and black and white guy with their tongues down each other’s throat.

Well they want patients to come in and ask for a certain drug that they happen to sell.
Yep and why should patients be prescribing their drugs? The doctor is the one trained for that.

A dirty secret from my 14 years working for big pharma is that the amount of money spent on marketing has generally always been higher than the amount spent on research.

So much so that I recall it made news when I think it was Pfizer (or maybe Lilly?) pledged that they would always spend more $$$s on research than on marketing.

Some of the old marketing ploys got banned- fancy trips to the tropics for prescribing doctors, for example.

Ads are annoying. The Wegovy and the Jardiance ones are starting to make my skin crawl.

Less annoying than all the political ads though!

So what’s your thoughts on banning the ads?

I missed all the good stuff. When I got I practice in 2000 they could still take us out to dinner but that changed about 20 years ago. They’re not allowed to even give us pens anymore. Also the reps have gotten older. Not many hot young model types anymore. Where does a lecherous middle aged doctor go now for fun???

They shouldn't but if, for example, you're depressed and you see a drug advertised that treats depression you might go in and sak to try it. Just like you may see a golf club that suppose to be better in an ad and want to try it. Really not much difference except there's a doctor between you and the purchase of a certain drug. From the public's standpoint I think it's a good for the public to know what's available to treat something things but I also understand where you're coming from. Before the mid 90s pharmaceutical companies couldn't advertise prescription drugs on TV but could in other media. Don't tell me you've never been persuaded to buy something to treat a cold, headache, etc by a drug ad. 😀

Don’t they still give you docs lots of samples. I know two young ladies who worked for a doc and got hooked on pain pills the doc allowed them to take from samples.
