Discussing Hoosiers' Newest Signees!

I don’t know the players. To answer the question we would need to know which position we needed most and which player was the best at his position. The best combo of those two factors would be our most exciting new guy.

Not to pile on Coach Woodson, but that's what you get at a FB school! lol! Maybe Coach Cignetti should also coach BB:)
ha He certainly can't do any worse. I will say, there are great bball coaches out there that would jump at a chance to coach at one of the highest roster budgets in the country. It's a new day and if Dolson learned anything after Cignetti, find someone who has a track record of consistent success.

As for this thread's topic, I like the recruits we added and hope this helps give our existing players good competition and growth going into next season. When you turn over a vast number of starting positions on a team full of talent, its hard to say which replacement I look forward to the most. We truly need them all!

I think he would do a better job than Woodson. Vince Lombardi coached high school basketball and took a historically losing school and still won the schools only state championship to this day. Also, Gene Keady wanted to be a football coach as he played college football yet couldn't find a coaching job in football.

Basically, a coach is a coach and a winner is a winner. Sadly, Woodson is not a winner.

At this point in the season, it is hard to tell which players will shine. A key example was Ponds last season excelling in the B1G like he had played in it all his life. I thought he would be good but didn't know if his speed matched up with B1G speed and it did. Right now, I would say Mendoza and Hemby but of course Wheeler and Morse are likely to excel too.

Woodson was a winner as a player so let’s not overlook that. As a coach, I would agree he is not a winner.

I agree. In most cases you don't have to place that caveat but out of nothing but pure respect, we must not lose sight that he is one of our own. He'll be forever embraced at IU and always drink for free, but for the love of the program, CMW, please step aside.

Here's a few articles that speak to the original topic:

Thnx for the above. There are actually 18 transfers in (didn't count Devan Boykin) for spring semester, & the above omitted Brody Foley who's in the portal.

I think Mendoza is probably the best since the quarterback within their offense is very important. Ratcliff and Wheeler will plug the middle to replace West.

I've seen Foley in-person and he's a great player and great person!

Offense gets most of the attention because it's generally the exciting thing, but I'm gonna be curious how our staff handles the corners we've got coming in.

We don't lose anyone of note and are bringing in two kids who started at their previous schools.

I've almost talked myself into the staff making a position to safety/rover for one young man.

Here are Indiana's newest signees from the transfer portal.

Who are you most excited about? An obvious pick would be Mendoza, but there are some other good players who will help the Hoosiers next season. Let's discuss!

Thinking about the '24 class v. this one.............I don't know if any school ever has had a transfer class that added as much fire power as our '24 class............really extraordinary.

I'd divide that class into different layers.....the most amazing contributors being Fisher; Ponds; Kamara; Rourke; West; and Walker.

Just below that might be Sarratt, Carpenter, Horton and Ellison

Then Layton, Price, Williams, Tucker, Asbury

Finally Wedig, Cross & Jones

That's 17. Almost all achieved more than we could reasonably expected. But we do have to remember that there were an additional 10 or so who did not make an impact.

Can lightening strike twice with this group? Mendoza is far and away the highest rated portal recruit Cig's gotten. Who else might provide as much as the first 10 guys?? To me the guys who have the best chance to be ABT types would be Benson, Stees, Hemby, Morris, Wheeler, Knighten, and Beebe.

Looking forward to having Sweet Lou back to give us a legitimate center fielder at Safety. He and Ferrell will hopefully benefit from the talent at CB and make some big plays on the back end.
