Dianne Feinstein - Completely ridiculous.

40 million people....

It's really simple. If there are legitimate questions about her mental capacities, she needs to be professionally evaluated and a determination should be made then.

Related, it's time to have a maximum age limit. There is already a minimum age limit.

I'd also like to see it applied to the Supreme Court too. It's not good for anyone when opposing political parties are not-so-secretly hoping against hope that someone lives or dies.

She's INCREDIBLY selfish. She's not Manchin hanging on in a red state. California has a Dem governor who would replace her with a Dem who would 100% get elected the next time the seat's up.

Also, do Grassley next.

Did you read the article? insanity. This is our gov. And people wonder why the hell they balk at giving these people unlimited amounts of money to spend. Calif has two senators. For 40 million people. This is half of the reps for 40 million people.

Definitely, and let's do it for Biden, too. Agreed?

Sure. Let’s just set the minimum age limit for federally elected high office and appointments at 74 and wipe our hands a of a lot of the BS on our immediate political landscape.
I'm not talking about an age limit. I agree with your position: "If there are legitimate questions about her mental capacities, she needs to be professionally evaluated and a determination should be made then."

And make it for any age.

I would be for an age limit throughout federal gov't [I would say 75]. The top ten oldest to serve were over 80years old with most 88 years old.

Although I totally agree with you on the intention, this type thing is perfect grounds for the unintended circumstances. Much like a mental proficiency test for gun owner ship. The intention is wonderful and agreed upon... but then sluthly squirms in an Adolph Pelosi or a Vladimir Clinton, who have spent 40 yrs building connections in the beltway who can subvert the mental proficiency test in the name of "for the greater control good".
The proficiency test is supposed to be every 2,4,6 years respectively. What we need is for stupid people to stop electing stupid people for stupid reasons, OR stop Xi, Vlad via Dominion from electing stupid compromised people.
But Wall Street will not allow this correction, NO ONE EVER relinquishes control once they have it.
Ready, aim, send it. Proverbially of course.

Good points. The slippery slope is a real thing.

I guess I was just pointing out that there is more than one politician whose mental ability may be imparied....

This seems to me to be an attempt by Democrats to bring down their own politicians who are leading their Party to disaster this Fall.

Just in case I need to make sure you understand, I am in 100% total agreement! She/ they are totally bat shit crazy, not in an AOC way, but more an octogenarian+ way.... they've out lived their human physical constraints of this world.
On a personal level, I have to tip my hat to them, ONLY about their age and mental limitations now. But For their years of Compromising Financial and political Gluttony, Greed and Pride (3 of the 7 deadly), I hope they wallow, on camera, pay per view, soiling themselves and drooling into a bib for as long as it takes for them to publicize all illegal hiden activities of the normal DC pay to play schemes that they all take part of! ... HEY DC , how about you pay YOUR fair share from your bribes!
I would vote to water board Feinstein today, and pour the water. And use my cattle shoots to organize the next several contestants!

Whew, and I thought I was doing better, but I guess ya can't totaly hide pissed off.

I'd lower it to 65. Those older than that need to ride off into the sunset. I'll be damned if I'm still working hard, grinding away at that age.

are you drunk

The chair recognizes the gentleman from Kentucky. I rise to say I am opposed to the bill to limit terms and set age limits, the check on service is the power of the franchise each qualified person has with the vote.

Not to mention the questionable constitutionality.

Which of the representatives/senators are working hard? It's not like they are out farming or working in a steel mill. DC is a glorified retirement home for the old and the young.
The answer is term limits.
Good luck getting mental tests or term limits passed by those who would be thrown out.

If it was constitutional, what age would you set? I really don’t understand these people that still want to do this in their 80’s. Do they not have anything else in their life? I think I’d say 75.

You're going to have oldsters wielding all the power, regardless. With the seniority system, it takes years for members to rise to the level of committee chairman or ranking member. That's may actually be why some stay on as long as they do, the prospect of one day actually being in a position to influence and advance legislation. Newer, younger members have to wait their turn.

The feds impose all kinds of mandatory retirement ages -LEOs, pilots, air traffic controllers, firefighters, state dept foreign service workers, park rangers - and politicians could be added to that list.

Unless they raise enough money for the party to get impt committee spots

I'd imagine that power and influence is a drug that is hard to give up. I’d not personally want to do that into my 80’s, or hell, even into my 60’s. But then I’ve never wanted power or influence to begin with. And I’m a lazy sod.

Is that what you think they’re doing in congress? Working hard, grinding away?

Well that's an interesting question. As a Senator, is it necessary to actually do anything, other than show up to vote? Maybe to get re-elected you need to. But if you're Diane Feinstein (or as they say in the rental car business, similar) couldn't you just pretty much do nothing whatsoever, and just be wheeled in to vote now and again? How hard could that be?

Strom Thurman once was at 98. Diane has another decade easily.

I'd use FRA, full retirement age, which is 67 for most. One more term for senators ( to 73), 3 for house (to 73) and 2 terms for pres (to 75). Sup Ct to 75, no longer than a pres.

I think it was Al McGuire who said that everyone should be required to tend bar and drive a taxi for a period of time. I'd be good with making that a prerequisite for holding public office.

This thread made me think of an old song. With the age issue, the loss of mental faculties, the left doing right things, the right doing left.
Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky tac, little boxes on the hill side and they all look just the same.

That song was a sendup of suburbia.

Now they're McMansions instead of little boxes.
