The only high school game woodson ever went to was for Mullins when dolson told him he needed to go. And he brought his wife. Must have been date night
He was on the phone non-stop tonight. Hang up and dial another number constantly. 2 hours straight.
That's the business he's chosen. Gotta be done.
He was on it a lot but I wouldn't say non-stop. Hell, he even took time to talk to an old guy (older than me!) and have a pic taken with some people.
Might as well talk on the phone, the game (IMO) wasn't high quality basketball.
I remember someone doing some similar things back in 71'. He had a rotary phone on his lap obviously, but it feels like the start of the ol' work to win over the right folks strategy.
Yeah that game was ugly. Felt like watching a game at a playground. actually made me appreciate the high school game not having a shot clock

DeVries has a hill to climb. He didn't just get rid of nearly the entire team, but due to the previous mix between portal transfers and (lack of) development, the number of underclassman he had to choose from was a bit more limited. Glad he's a worker, he'll need it.
What I wonder is where we will stand as the price of poker keeps climbing. I'm guessing 'middle of the pack'. Well, middle of the pack for the top 25-30 teams anyway, which is who we need to compete with, to contend in the B!G now and then, make tourney's every year, and some sweet 16s. I think talk of being flush with NIL is a bit of a pipe dream. Hearing the budgets of the richest basketball schools, wow, they dwarf what we did just this past year. And probably what DeVries has. And with revenue share, many or all the other B!G schools that had less, will close the gap.
It'll be fun. I don't think it'll take more than a couple seasons to be rolling. I have little doubt DeVries will do just fine at playing 'money ball' and with his solid budget he'll find some very good players. I do think it will improve over time though, as he wins here.

Yeah, I made a post somewhere that with the way NIL deals seemed to have jumped this year, I didn't think we had as big a bankroll as people assumed. Appears most every top 20 portal guy is going to be in the $2 mill range, so having to reload an entire roster, with the new price range, is not going to be the windfall many assumed. Conwell supposedly was asking $2 mill and I think that's what Owen Freeman supposedly got at Creighton. Be interesting to learn what Tucker DeVries is getting, but I bet he's not shorting his own kid. But, if you're talking about starter level kids costing $1.5-2 mill, 10-11 mill is actually not a ton to fill 10+ spots. Cupps alegedly getting 1 mill is jaw dropping.
NFW Cupps gets $1 million a year. That is ludicrous.
When you're spending other people's money and have a lot of it, anything can happen. Cupps has connections in Ohio too.
If I'm Devries my kid is playing for free or should I say he is playing for almost 5 million a year. My kid would not eat up any of my NIL money, he would understand the bigger picture.
DeVries isn't going to pay his kid out of his own pocket.
I expect he'll just run by his admin what he intends, and unless it's ridiculous be told 'ok'. His kid's a very solid player who would get well paid elsewhere, no reason for him to take a haircut.

Maybe but really no need to pay his son, for goodness sake he is being paid 5 million a year he can afford to give his kid weekend cash.

Like I said my kid would see the bigger picture. They would know for the first 21 year of their life they were on my dime, they owe me.
The B1G picture is either Indiana can compete, or we can't.

What is he donating? Is NIL guaranteed or is it just a tool to recruit? Maybe the kid just wants to play for his Dad. Funny how differently people view things. I tell Tucker freeing up the money means I get more to spend on a bad ass team, you call it a donation I call it smart business.

I don't want to claim I was right at all I want to win. But nobody can say this is going like they thought so far. The whole point of hiring him or Ben M was his ability to navigate the portal per Saint Dolson. And since Saint Dolson will not touch guys like beard whose were are only options. It is so far looking like just having money does not matter we missed on both of our top two targets when offering two million
