Depth and rotation as season progresses?

So it seems to me like it's definitely a Durham thing that he needs to correct. I think it comes from knowing how far to drift from shooters. Green sticks but will explode for help and get back to a position where he doesn't have to leap at a shooter, he can run up on them in control.

Al loses the shooter and gets pulled so far away that he keeps getting burned and can't recover without having to leap at them out of control.

Seeing the same thing in the first half of Games - Aljami following ball movement into the lane to rebound/help and not being able to recover when it gets kicked back out. Also seems to do much better in second halves, so not as if he can't do it, perhaps just a bit over-zealous coming out of the gate.

it's not that we're closing out better, we're instead shading to the shooters instead of the lane - unpacking the packline a bit - which means our guys are covering less ground, but there's a driving gap in there now.

And I assume, that at least for now, that we (Coach Miller) are willing to give up that gap as we can better recover than in year's past (defend interior penetration w/rim defenders)?

I have no idea what he's thinking and to be honest was very surprised by the extending of the defense at times. It may just be something he's doing to compensate for the floor being spread more due to the new line. Watch the two off ball wings on top, they are not always behind the line (packed) at all times like in a normal packline. It started a couple games ago.

hmmm. Well, I guess we'll know sooner or later how this D will look against B10 teams. We are certainly improved over how I recall last season. The only caveat is that the thing that sticks out for me from last year is the 1-12 (lack of) effort. The 12-2 start has been erased from my memory banks.

The teams before Princeton (I didn't get to pay much attention) were driving us early in sets straight down the lane and not only has the ball defender been beaten but the help has been really bad and mostly with the big lineup with Brunk. Not blaming him because I don't know if he's the one breaking down. That has to get better and has when Phinesee enters. Transition overall has been bad and it may just be a part of that..

Funny that we all thought the defense would be solid and the offense behind. Not that Kenpom matters yet but our defensive rating has dropped considerably and the offense increased as much.
