My blog is not monetized ... I make no income from your clicks ... it's just a NON-expert opinion. It gives me something to do and keeps me off the streets.

I was going to write about thoughts in general about last nights game but Coach Crean's comment last night about being young and yes we are but....

That lead me to talking about roster turnover and looking at next year's possibilities....just worthless rambling really.

Coach Crean knows who will be leaving

You sure do churn out a lot of words.

Agree with your thoughts, mostly.

Oversigning to compensate for NBA departures doesn't bother me. It's the transfers that bother me. If a kid transfers, and we already have a guy signed to replace him, I have to wonder if the fact we had that guy signed didn't play a role in his decision to transfer. Imagine this perfectly world. Every year we sign 5 players. One leaves after his freshman year, and two more leave after their sophomore years. In other words, 3 NBA departures per year. That's a lot year in and year out, but it's just a model. In that situation, each year, our roster would be:

5 freshmen, including 3 stars.
4 sophomores, including 2 stars.
2 juniors.
2 seniors.

Here's another possibility. Never sign one-and-dones, and always have one sophomore and one junior leave for the NBA. You sign 4 per year. Roster:

4 freshmen, including 2 stars.
4 sophomores, including 2 stars.
3 juniors, including 1 star.
2 seniors.

I think I actually like that model, better. I think the first model is what CTC is shooting for. In either case, you fill transfers' spots with junior college players or walk-ons. But oversigning in anticipation of those transfers is what really gets me frustrated.

It's worth noting that in both models above, the team has 5 star players (here defined as definite future NBA player), but in the second model, there are two extra years of experience among them.

God this post turned out to be dense.

That first model is why we are "always young". I like the 2nd model also but more than anything I would rather be hearing about recruiting or going to see some 6'10 man eater, than another top guard. I know Yogi is a Jr....but damn, IU needs some depth plus a big man....a true center.
