Dawson Garcia

Same.
Hard to see how he doesn't end up at Minny though, given that the reason he left the team and presumably is now in the portal is to be close to family.

Really wanted him coming out of high school, solid player. Was good at Marquette (should have never gone their in the first place) and then transferred up. North Carolina seemed to take off when Garcia left the team mid-year. Not sure why.

Not sure about that, I think they struggled for awhile after he was gone, and really didn't catch fire until that last regular season game at Duke; they were a different team from then on. Heck, I think they were still on the bubble in a lot of folks eyes until then.

I thought he was from IN? Just played here or his family moved?

This kid has been on quite the journey over the past couple years. Would be ironic to see him land in Bloomington after being perhaps CAM's biggest miss of all. At one point it was down to us and Marquette. He chose to spend a winter in freaken Milwaukee with Wojo over playing for CAM.

Not getting my hopes up at all. However, if he shows any renewed IU interest, next yr suddenly becomes very interesting. But would also mean some decisions to be made by JG and maybe Kopp. Don't see it happening at this point. If TJD stays in the draft..then that's another story.

Wonder if he can get a special exemption due to family illness..otherwise I thought the portal rule was that he'd have to sit, since he's already played the portal game once.

I think normally Minnesota would not get him but will by default because of his situation.

Given it has to do with family health issues i doubt we have much of a shot at all. I would say likely slim to none but I guess we shall see.

can't ever fault a kid for going back home... No matter how used to the limelight these kids are, there is no place like home

I’d love to have him, but I would guess the only way he gets a waiver to play immediately is if he is very close to home.

That's not a thing anymore, is it? Isn't that the whole reason the portal has exploded? Everyone can play immediately wherever they want.

No idea about this kid's desire to be close to home. Can't fault him for that.

You can only transfer once and play immediately. He transferred last year from Marquette to UNC, so he would have to sit out this coming year without a hardship waiver.

Got it. Didn't know that was part of the rule.

I suppose then pulling more kids from the portal could maybe create better roster stability. Would have thought the reverse.

You know they will give it to him.

Pet peeve.......when you say "He's going to Minnesota" it sounds as though that has already happened. If you would add "imo" it would clarify matters.
We have a lot of posters that post as if their opinion is a fact. It's a pet peeve for me too. How many times have these posters posted something like "he gone" about a player and then the player comes back? It's too many times to count. I doubt many, if any, ever say their opinion was wrong. They just post another opinion as if it was a fact.

I'd like to see some of these 2 and 3 transfer idiots end up missing out completely.

Make a frigging decision kid.
